Finding it hard to know in what thread to put what comments, but since we're talking SiT here...
I just always come back to the sound/tone of the album itself. It had synths, not keyboards; it was mixed with more reverb; etc. It has this really big, full, together tone about it; which just isn't Maiden's live sound. I didn't see SiaSL in '99, but from bootlegs (clearly I'm listening to the wrong ones here) I don't think it sounds that good; H certainly didn't nail (in my opinion) that lovely mid-song solo, in terms of the tone of the original recording. It just feels & sounds too fragile for a Maiden live set. Wasted Years is played, & works, because it's the easiest song for them to play live and sound like the album version; there was no synths (bass or guitars) in this track. I don't, personally, think this is a big enough reason not to play some of the material live though. I mean, they just played SSoaSS live; so it's not that difficult to imagine them (at one point) having done, say, AtG. Sea Of Madness from bootlegs (back in '86/'87) sounds pretty good too; they could certainly play a track like that live again, & do it justice I'd have thought.
Other than this, I just wish they'd apply their fuck-you attitude, that they apply to new material (i.e. we're going to play this new stuff live, & you're going to listen --Maiden always give a good smattering from their new albums on the album tour), to just one (just one is fine) older less-played track every tour. But, it's a bit late now; the format seems pretty well oiled as-is, so I don't see any likelihood of them changing their live set-up.
