Maiden covers

Feverdog

Trooper
I don’t usually like maiden cover versions but I’ve been on you tube today looking at a lot
And just wondered what people’s best and worst maiden covers are
Mine are:
Best - children of bodom - aces high – sounds like they love the song
Worst –cradle of filth –hallowed be thy name - terrible vocals and drumming.

To be honest, I haven't really heard too many apart from the occasional pub band doing run to the hills, and the ones I have I never took any notice of who the artist was. I'm sure there is a few out there but.

I'm not a big fan of Opeth but I would have to say there version of Remember Tomorrow would have to be my favorite maiden cover.

Machine Heads Version of Hallowed, but I also really like Ghostlines cover of Brave New World.

Worst cover - Coheed and Cambria - The  Trooper

Metallica did a nice cover of Remember Tomorrow I think I recall. It wasn't spectacular but they did a decent job with it. There was a Powerslave cover by a band called Ancient Wisdom which was absolutely brutal.

I remember there was a "Maiden Heaven" tribute album free with Kerrang magazine one year, which was full of Maiden covers. There are a few CDs like that actually, such as "Numbers From The Beast" amongst others, they shouldn't be too hard to find with a little searching.

While that was pretty bad, I raise you this:

The ancient wisdom cover of Powerslave I actually like.  It's death metal, but because Powerslave is such a heavy song, it really works.  It was on the "A Call to Irons" tribute, vol 1.  Absu also covered Transylvania on it as well, another smashing version.

I quite liked Michael Kiske's cover of Alexander the Great.

It's not Kiske's, but a band called Eleventh Hour. Still a hell of a cover.

Chris Jericho's, the wwf wrestler, cover of where eagles dare is really good.

It looks like they are playing a Bar Mitzvah

Well, it has the number 15 big on the curtain, so it can't be a bar mitzvah.
It's just a regular birthday.

I think cover versions rarely hit the spot regardless of who covers them...All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix being a big exception. As for Maiden Covers i've a reasonable Hallowed by Machine Head on a live DVD

I have heard quite a number of Maiden covers, a couple of notable ones for me are:

Killers - Defiance
To Tame A Land - Dream Theater

Defiance are or were (actually I don't know what they are doing now) a thrash metal band from Oakland, it appears on their 1990 album Void Terra Firma.
The Dream Theater cover appears on a bonus disc called Uncovered, it is part of a three disc package for the Black Clouds & Silver Linings album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40o8aG4J-ks Solace's version of Another Life is my personal favourite

To the guy who posted the link of Chris Jericho singing Where Eagles Dare - thank you very much! I had no idea that he had done another Maiden cover besides The Evil That Men Do. And I consider myself being a huge Chris Jericho fan...  :ninja:
