I’m not surprised that people are voting against it or that it’s losing or whatever because I’ve come to know this forum quite well.

What I am surprised is that this is considered the worst Maiden song ever and that some people absolutely despise it. That’s the crazy thing.
Me too. I have made a lengthy review on the song with a lot of positive points. I feel people are ashamed to suddenly revisit and reappreciate a song when it has a bad name. Once a bad name, always a bad name. That said, some of these grades and comments I find out of line. As if some people have a need to be tough and cool without substance. Best focus on the more positive commentary if the negativity gets too overwhelming, Diesel.

But never ever bend down your own opinion because of a major negativity. You experience the song different that is all. The force of individuality.

Tbh, I'm pretty sure some of "The Apparition" haters are only "The Apparition" haters because it's already automatically recognized as Iron Maiden's worst song.

It's only automatically recognized as the band's worst song here on Maidenfans. The world doesn't consist merely of Maidenfans.

The Apparition is an atrocious song. The verses are incredibly tedious and unimaginative and they're repeated ad nauseam despite not having any meat to them. That one good riff in the middle can't save the song.

There are different nuances in the verses. There is less repetition (or replication) as in e.g. the verses of Aces High.

They are imaginative. And original. It has to be known, deduced, recognized, liked, appreciated. We cannot blame the song alone.

Often songs are heavy criticized for the lyrics. Not here. Strong lyrics and very interesting (in hindsight) when you compare them with TFF.

Power chord triplets in the E minor scale for more than a minute, accompanied by vocals that mirror the melody. Super imaginative indeed.

I don't believe anyone should change their opinion, certainly. Just don't consistently act surprised and appalled that one's opinion doesn't match the forum atmosphere. Like, Foro, you thoroughly enjoy No Prayer, the album. And you've certainty never wavered in that, defending it, pointing out the highs that are often overseen. But you can't pretend to be surprised that people in general still see it as a weaker album.

Just like I am not shocked when people hate The Angel and the Gambler. How can I be?

Not really, no. I've seen many YouTube comments, for example, dedicated to hating the song (I remember one saying that the song was so bad it completed the circle and actually became good), and many top 10 worst lists including "The Apparition" very near, if not in the top spot.

It’s funny that people keep saying the middle instrumental is better than the verses, because it’s the verses that I like better. And not even necessarily the lyrics, I just really like the way the song is structured, the way Bruce sings, the way the instruments sound, etc. It’s definitely a weird song, no doubt about that, but its weirdness makes it good.

I agree that the vocal melody could have been different although I'm not sure how that would have sounded.

I wonder if people who are not fond of the album it's on, give an (extra) low grade when they hear the brilliance of Judas, Fear and Afraid (and The Fugitive of course ;--) ). And then this.

If you mix things up, or when you see the song alone or in different context, the appeciation could be different. Would TAATG really win when it has to battle The Apparition? I'm not that sure anymore.

Killers performed surprisingly well considering I barely know it.

Moonchild
Infinite Dreams
Murders in the Rue Morgue
The Evil That Men Do
Genghis Khan
Seventh Son
Killers
The Clairvoyant
Prodigal Son
Purgatory
The Thin Line
... where the hell did that come from?
