Tonight is the Chemistry Club's annual "Autumn Party" at the Student's Cabin outside Trondheim. I'm not going there this time as I'm going on a plane to my hometown tomorrow morning for a weekend off. However, that didn't prevent me from joining some of the younger students for a pre-party (I'm not going to office tomorrow anyway). First we had some "karsk" in my office (karsk is a local drink made from coffee and moonshine - we used 96% ethanol instead of moonshine). Then I joined them for the real pre-party in the flat some other students are renting near campus. Had some beers, but that's hardly the point. At this pre-party, there was actually (hold your horses) general acceptance for me putting on the following songs:
DumDum Boys - Splitter Pine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xg8mer20-48)
Motörhead - Ace of Spades
Judas Priest - Breaking The Law
Iron Maiden - The Trooper
Turbonegro - I Got Erection (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEJGk8qfAgI)
I mean, come on? There was even appreciation for The Trooper. I'm just happy right now.
And part b: I've long since given up trying to convince stupid people (=people that don't listen to metal
) how great metal is. 90% of the time, it doesn't work. Seems like you had better luck, or maybe it was your role as an older student.I don't.LooseCannon said:I have beer.

Invader said:As to part a, we have some older students who I'm convinced take long to graduate just because they like student life/drinking so much, and they're usually awesome. Sounds like you're that type of guy.And part b: I've long since given up trying to convince stupid people (=people that don't listen to metal

But yes, I admit that a desire for continuing student life was a part of my motivation. Being a PhD student is a paid position, but it doesn't pay that well.
I'm about to go costume hunting now, I have no clue what to look for....
