Alcohol purchase age in the US is actually a state law, not national. It just happens that all 50 states have their law set at 21.

Not exactly a coincidence - the feds blackmailed them into it. Threatened to withhold highway repair funds if the states didn't set the age to 21. Just a minor rape of the 10th amendment.

U.S. military bases in foreign countries can also set drinking ages for assigned personnel according to host nation laws. When I was stationed in Okinawa, Japan in 95-96, the drinking age was set at 18. I know since then personnel have screwed that up though through totally immoral and irresponsible behavior and for a time it was set at 21, now I think it has made it back down to 19. There are strict limits on how much you can purchase at the base stores as well depending on rank.

And I won it. £2.20 - not too bad for a second-hand CD, but £1.75 P&P is a bit of a rip-off. I've sold CD's on ebay and can get them delivered for less than £1, easily.
 
It will ... it's Train Of Thought. The first song has an atmospheric bass intro, but kicks into a heavy riff about a minute in. I mean HEAVY. As in: your-head-will-start-banging-involuntarily heavy.

Agree wholeheartedly. When you vote, you are one of those who is let down by people you vote for - and that's a good reason to drink. The same goes for the possibility of being sent away to die because some politician thinks it's a good idea. Nobody cares what you think, and therefore you should be allowed to drink.

By the way, in Norway the legal drinking age is 18. And you join the military the year you are 19. So here it's the other way around. You are allowed to drink even before you can die for your country  :D
 
In Canada, you can join the Reserves at age 16, though you can't be deployed under the current rules till you're 18.
 
In one of Robert Heinlein's first novels (tho it was published last) he had a society that voted on war-- if war was an option, every member of society voted on it, and those who voted for war were the first ones to be drafted into service.  Granted, there is a lot that can go wrong with that system, but interesting.
 
Not very frequently-- I don't recall much of it; it was an early work, so it was pretty rough...not a lot of character development.  but if i recall correctly, there was still a standing military, but it put more responsibility on ' the people' to do what was right.  The only problem with Heinlein's early stuff was that he envisioned a future of men and women that 'did what was right' more often than not....
 
So, if the Irish beat the Welsh tomorrow (a good chance that could happen), they win the Grand Slam for the first time in generations - good luck to them.

However, if England beat Scotland (very likely) and the above result is as stated, England finish second in  the 6 nations. Not bad for a team that was completely written off by all and sundry and the game tomorrow [England v Scotland] was  was actually cited by Andy Nicol as a wooden spoon decider.

Don't you just love it when so called experts are proved wrong. :D
