I told John Petrucci after a guitar clinic that I was going to audition to Berklee using his song so thanks for the tips. He was pretty nice but honestly after that I don't really have the urge to meet musicians I like. It would be cool to interview some of them though and get really into the type of minutiae that gets discussed on here.

If a band goes to hang out at the merch stand then I might go get the ticket or CD signed, and get a photo too. I don't have a lot to talk to them about though. The first musician I met was Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying when I was 16. He's, like, 11 feet tall and I'm short. I just told him that his band had played my two favourite songs of theirs. A few years later he tried to hire a hitman to kill his wife and ended up in jail.

Such as "Which Iron Maiden song is the most complex?" and "Can Judas Priest sell out Wembley Stadium?"

More along the lines of, what are the guitarists' demos like before Steve Harris gets his hands on them or how much input does Bruce have on the instrumental parts of songs that are credited entirely to him (namely Flash of the Blade).

A friend of mine who used to post here long, long ago, ended up having long chats with Blaze after each of his gigs, being invited by Paul Di'anno to his backstage area after each gig, and had hour-long conversations with Steve and Rod before gigs. I talked to other people like that, it's not all that common. Personally, I'm not too interested. I like to keep a sort of aura around the artists I follow, knowing perfectly well it's a fiction, because they're human beings like you and me.

Many years ago I approached Ginger Wildheart outside after a gig, just to say "hello, good gig." He was talkin to a much younger lady (younger than him, not me). He told me to fuck off. Totally in fitting with his reputation.

^But also the fact that you interrupted him when he was on the pull?
No doubt this played a part, no doubt whatsoever. And telling a young fan to fuck off it totally in fitting with his reputation. Still, certainly wouldn't stop me goin to see The Wildhearts if they came this way again.
