Well. I have been flying earlier today and am now on my 2nd beer because ...

I'm now officially a pilot :yey:

Had the skill test scheduled for tomorrow, but when I got up this morning, I saw that the weather forecast indicated I would probably not be able to fly tomorrow. But today afternoon looked promising, so I called the examiner and asked if he could make it today. He could, and at 2:30 PM I was at the airport, took a brief inspection of the aircraft and did the last preparations. Then the examiner showed up and we did a briefing of the skill test. Then we went out to inspect the machine, took it out, jumped in, started up ... and off we go into my last step on my way towards the PPL.

75 minutes later, after a navigation exercise, the usual airwork procedures (steep turns, slow flight, stall recovery), emergency procedures, and three landings, the examiner told me to taxi back to the hangar. After the engine came to a stop, he asked if I had any questions or comments. I only had a bit of self-criticism towards my emergency landing procedure (which I had to do twice, the second one was OK). He agreed, came with some advice to how this could've been done better ... then congratulated me :D

Then we pushed the aircraft back inside the hangar, parked it properly and went inside the club hut to fill in the paperwork. I now hold a temporary license while the CAA Norway prepares my proper one.

As I now sit here, typing this, I'm looking forward to a year where I hope to fly a lot, learn a lot more - but without the pressure of being a student. My boyhood dream of becoming a fighter pilot hasn't come true, but being a pilot isn't bad anyway.

And when someone sits down in the right seat now and asks "what does this button do?" ... I'll know the answer.
