It is unusual. Hit and run isn't "popular" here, due to geography there's a problem with running away. Especially when targeting something obvious like one of a dozen 24/7 gas stations, that close down at midnight and do the inventory, open up again at 00:30, so all the money is gone.

Had a guy, locally, rob a convenience store 3 separate times taking a grand total of $20 (US) each time=$60. He went to prison for 12 years.
