That's exactly what it tasted like: cancer. Googled and found out it's a genetic thing in some chickens who have been fed fish meals.
 
Fishy egg = one of them is rotten. Or like you say, the chickens have been fed on meal including ground up fish guts, something that has been linked to the introduction of salmonella to factory farm chicken populations.
