I'm not so sure about the Falklands one, a heck of a lot of people wouldn't even get the Malvinas reference. Seeing English translations with an American flag next to them would irritate the hell out of people, or maybe some football-related jibe. Or suggest that Scotland/Ireland/Wales are preferable to England.

"Soccer is for pussies, there's only one real football and it's played in the States"

That probably wouldn't work. More like something about England failing to win stuff and English players being outclassed by foreign players, including in the English leagues. I still think suggesting that England is a shithole when compared to Bonnie Scotland would get a fair few people going.

People are well aware that this is the case, imo. It's the consensus opinion of English football pundits.

I honestly wouldn't know. I guess it depends who you're confronting. My non-Dutch wife says:
"The Dutch say they are tolerant. It used to be some sort of reputation. But when you say they are not (because they aren't (anymore)), that might trigger them."

You're going to have to endure that a lot in the future if Wilders is elected, I'm afraid.

Can't get too riled up over that one, because it's demonstrably true. :D

You can make the argument that it's more enjoyable, it's more manly, more athletic, whatever. Can't make the argument it's the real football. It's factually false.

You also can't make the argument that "nobody cares about soccer", which is another factually false statement that I've seen uttered far too often by Americans.

I'd say that irritates people in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland more than it does people who live in, say, London.

As for Canadians, the best way to aggravate us is just to use "eh" wrong at the end of sentences. Or suggest that hockey sucks.
