I can understand criticising the depth of Sabaton, and I can understand criticising the musical and lyrical simplicity of Sabaton. But I can't see how they suck. They play perfectly average metal but make it tremendously fun.

I know I didn't say the suck, but this forum talks about them sooooo fucking much. Why, if they're so "perfectly average"? I admit they're pretty fun sounding.

Because quite a few people around here like them and find them fun/amusing. I don't think any of us argue that they're high art.

And I've eaten loads of chocolate now and feel sick.

I don't think they're average at all. They're a lot better than average. It's easy to find faults in Sabaton but the qualities far outweigh them. I don't know why they're so popular in the forum but so is Judas Priest, Dream Theater etc.

I'm enjoying a glass of wine.

I don't think what they do is fun at all. They have nothing positive to offer me as a listener. They're honestly one of the worst bands I've ever cared to give a shot. It's either them, or Manowar.

If I want to listen to enjoyable silliness, I'll go for pop, funk, hiphop or something. I don't think it's suitable for metal.

Taste 'n stuff. Maybe you don't like Metal that sounds epic. I know I do.

It could be that. I despise the likes of power metal and symphonic metal. I wouldn't use the term epic because I really like Maiden epics. I have a tendency to come across as a metal-basher on the forum but really, it's just that a lot of stuff in metal just aren't my thing.

I absolutely LOVE the music of Sabaton! They have awesome guitar riffs that are very catchy and musically enjoyable. And their singer has a great voice too. And how many war themed power metal bands are out there?

Yes, Joakim plays a great role in what makes Sabaton stand out from the rest. His powerful vocals perfectly fit their music. Pretty much what Bruce is to Maiden.

"Perfectly average" is a pretty good way to describe Sabaton. They're a bit of a novelty band but I really think the riffs and vocals give them an edge that makes them more than just a novelty. They've got some good songwriting.
