Speaking of Tailgunner. Must have been pretty lonely in there:

Yep. Good stuff. But as great as Metallica's interpretation is, it still pales in comparison to the originals, which speaks to the timeless awesomeness of those early Rainbow albums. If any of the young'uns on this forum aren't intimately familiar with them, check them out. Can't top Blackmore + Dio.

Unfortunately, the rest of the Dio tribute album isn't great. Other than the Metallica medley, the only covers worth hearing more than once are the Scorpions' "Temple of the King" and, surprisingly, Halestorm's "Straight Through the Heart." The Halford version of "Man on the Silver Mountain" is downright embarrassing.

Completely agreed.
Munich 1977 DVD is also a must.

If you ask me a question, would I tell you the truth?

Continuing on the short discussion earlier, here is a line from the same song: "And if you would tell me..."
Now that has to be grammatically wrong, right? My English teacher used to say in every lesson: "No 'would' in the 'if' clause!"
Can I redeem the mistake made earlier or am I wrong yet again?

Whoa, now that is what this thread was made for.
Well done Maidenfans!

Feels like I've been here before...

Ritchie Blackmore was prone to self-indulgent long jams live--I prefer the studio albums. That said, I agree that Live in Munich 1977 is an essential DVD if for no other reason than it is the highest quality surviving document of what Rainbow was like when they played live. Here's a taste:

Rainy days have returned here. That'll be good for a while, better than 30 C.
Besides, I'm feeling hella inspired right now.
