Without Charles Lyell there would have been no Charles Darwin as Darwin took Lyell's book on the Beagle. Without James Hutton there would have been no Charles Lyell as Lyell's work was influences by Hutton's. It all started in Scotland.

Wait, are you saying that without the Scots we'd still be living in trees, holding our bananas with our feet?

Did you ever consider that I might actually want to hold a banana with my feet?

Hutton took his degree of Doctor of Medicine at Leyden.

Without Dutch education, no educated Hutton. It all started in the Netherlands.

British song (not Scottish I believe):

The hated journey on the train,
Always been the same,
Looking out windows,
Second class and second best,
OH What a waste of time,

Sleep for five stops in a row,
Prepare yourself to go,
Waterloo station,
Bought a '69 Capri,
failed the M.O.T.,
What a waste of time,
The Worker ...

Dutch song (beware the mustaches):

Drinking all day doing nothing, thunder in my brain,
Waiting till the tide will turn, coming back again.
You got no time for problems, money's all they see,
Waiting 'till the tide will turn, it will always be.
Unemployed, feel annoyed.
Unemployed, feel destroyed,
Unemployed ...
