Now listening to: The gentle hum of the humidifier over the top of a phone conversation between someone and my wife. I would play some tunes, but dog walking beckons.
I just heard on the TV something that caught my ear. The Beeb is running the umpteenth repeat of Open all Hours at the present (how they can justify putting on a show that is 15-20 years old at prime time viewing, I'll never know) and a radio was played in the shop with Run to the Hills blasting from it at full volume. :D
 
on this year's D-day's anniversary, while I was at work, I was amased to listen Paschendale to the radio (turned to a very "pop" station)

if it was I that put that song, everyone in my work would have bitch, but now, no-one did really paid attention to the unusually heavy sound  :)

Sadly, I don't know much of Bathory's material, black/thrash or Viking.  As for the similarity, well...Manowar had a bit of an epic Viking thing going on in certain tracks, and I think Quorthon was a bit of a Manowar fan.

It must be one of my top 3 metal albums,

Twilight of the Gods is Bathory's first Viking album -possibly this album created the gerne
the sound is more refered to Classic than to Black Metal
