Meh. I have a Mac, I like it well enough, but I really like Win7. It works well, and isn't too hard to babysit. Mac's always feel un-modifiable to me. I think for the average user, a Mac or a PC running Win7 would be fine. Hell, the average user can get away with a tablet and have no issues.

In other news, its Friday Fest here. Walk out the door, cross the parking lot, and BAM, a beer tent by the river. I shall have a beverage or two.

Here is to summer!

One great thing about Macs is the huge lack of viruses and spyware. Yes, I know a lot people say they've never had a problem with that stuff on Windows, but with a Mac you really won't have any problems with that stuff. We've had our Mac since 2007 and have never put any scanners on here and have never had any problems.

My five year old laptop is reaching the end of its life, even buttons are starting to fall apart. "Alt" last month, "Enter" today.

No offense, but that's dumb as hell.

Yes, it is true that Mac's are less likely to get a virus (due to a smaller user base, so less reason to target) - but they do still get them. Not all viruses/spyware will make a noticeable difference to your machines performance. You won't always get slow downs or bizarre behaviour, files dissapearing/corrupting etc, there are plenty of things like keyloggers which will be virtually silent and cause plenty of harm. Having no scanner/protection at all is a very silly thing to do. You cannot say "You don't have to worry about viruses" EVER, and you have no way of knowing if you are compromised at all. Personally I've never had a virus on windows using windows firewall and avast (which is free) either - I still keep an eye on it though and those are there to prevent. If I didn't have them, I could just as easily say I've not had a virus and actually have 50 of them lurking on my hard drive because I simply wouldn't know.

As for Mac vs PC, people often compare it as Mac OSX vs Windows which isn't the case at all. For a start there is also Linux, but a PC is the machine not the software. I wouldn't buy a Mac for a few reasons myself, one being that I do regularly play games, and another being that I have over the years frequently upgraded my machine - having the entire thing as one unit is very troublesome. If my monitor breaks I buy a new one, if that happened on a Mac I lose the entire thing until I can fix/replace it. Never seen the obsession with it being all white and super thin either. We had Mac's at Uni in our 2nd year and I much preferred the Linux machines we had in the 1st year, or my home PC. Even when it comes to OS, I like Windows 7 too and never cared for the look of OSX.

I've always found Mac lovers that I have encountered to be similar to Nintendo fans... they are obsessed and rarely accept the existance of alternatives or the idea that their love could do wrong. The amount of "Fck Windows!" rage I've seen from people when the problem they are having is user error is not on the low side. The almost evangelical view they get of it does not help endear me.

I think the Windows/Mac debate is silly. Both have strengths and weaknesses, in the end it just comes down to personal preference. The solution to having a problem with a windows OS is not "get a mac" or vise versa. Just find the one you like/suits you best.

What is happening?? Usually that works for me, but sometimes I have to fiddle with it to get it to work.

I wanted to re-install Windows 7 on my computer. I started the installation process thinking it would prompt me to format my hard drive (and getting rid of the old Windows installation) at some point, but that never happened. Instead, the installation froze at some point, forcing me to abort it, and afterwards, it was unable to continue.

So, I installed Ubuntu and formatted the hard drive, thinking I could just install Windows again. Both Windows 7 and Windows XP told me it was impossible because the hard drive was not formatted in NTFS, and I have no idea what that means. Most online forums aren't helpful, I've only found one answer which I am considering trying out now.

When you formatted using Ubuntu you likely formatted the drive into a file system native to Ubuntu and not NTFS, which is required for Win 7.

The win 7 installation procedure can be a bit weird, so I advice you to find a good online installation guide and try it again.

Wish me luck, guys. I am to change headlight bulbs on my car. It involves removing the coolant expansion tank. But at least it's not as difficult as on this car:

Was just talking with another Aussie and they don't know Thunderstruck...:uhm:

Well my view is that I'd rather not pay say an extra $600-$700 just for design. :P

I could have told you that. :p My husband is a car guy so I've seen him change headlight bulbs before and it's usually been pretty quick and easy.

Well ... as the video I posted shows you, it is not necessarily easy. Depends on how well the car has been designed :)

I have the impression that the newer a car is, the more of the maintenance is becoming too complicated to do it yourself without professional tools and training specific to the car model. My own car isn''t that new (1996), but I also only do superficial maintenance myself. Replacing mechanical parts (like engine and brake parts) I leave for professionals.

The most complicated job I have done myself on that car was to take out the air fan (similar to the picture below) to clean it. Complicated, because I had to remove several other parts to get access to it (plus I couldn't see the wiring).

This is very true. :) Some cars are built with more easier access to the lights than others I've noticed or maybe it just seemed easier because the husband is a car guy and I hardly know shit about cars except for what I need to know.
