Hello guys!
I have to prepare myself for my American culture class' final writing assignment (this Tuesday) and I thought I can use some help here. We were allowed to come up with a topic ourselves and the only criteria was that it has to be America related. Given that, I have set "The emergence of thrash and its impact on the worldwide metal scene" as the topic. I was pretty confident with it until the teacher wrote (quote): make it as USA-focused as possible and more interpretative than descriptive. By that I mean that your discussion should (...) aim at setting thrash metal on the broader background of American music/culture, perhaps also regional identities. Think of the genre's impact not so much on the world as America itself, in the social, cultural, or some other dimension you find especially interesting.

Here comes my question to you: do you know any articles on the Internet that deal with the topic of how thrash metal influenced American culture or society? Any interesting anthropological/social research I can find on that topic?

You can also research how religious communities have dealt with the genre. That is, if your (probably Catholic) school/university is tolerant enough.

I'm not sure that this is a very deeply researched area. It could be easier to go the other way round: The influences of American history and culture on thrash metal. The first thing that springs to mind is Metallica's Don't Tread On Me. It's very tightly linked to American history.

Sure, that could make a good paragraph. I study at the University of Wrocław, so it's not any kind of run-by-Church community. ;) There will be no problem with that.

Thank you Ariana :) I have to mention Megadeth and Mustaine's political stuff also.

No, but the Polish church is very much behind, so I am not sure how much they are open for criticism on religion. Then again, this stuff is about the USA, not the Polish church.
