What are the attractions?

Depends on what you are looking for. But I can guarantee that we have it all. ;)
Mountains, beaches, night life, historical monuments, caves, ancients fortresses, villages no one has ever heard of... anything.

You know, Bulgaria — and Eastern Europe in general — doesn't get much ink in the travel brochures in my part of the world.

Woah. I don't know about Bulgaria but Greece and Turkey ?

Greece gets a lot, Turkey not so much.
But most Balkan countries and former Soviet states are pretty much overlooked.

I'd expect Greece to get more credit because it has fantastic sea views in addition to cultural heritage. Turkey has a big amount of cultural heritage too but as for the natural beauties not as much as Greece.

I haven't been outside my country, though.

Turkey gets a lot of tourist coverage in Germany. Bulgaria - it's always in the "budget" section of travel brochures with one or two entries.

I guess many think of Greece as Southern Europe rather than Eastern, and Turkey as Asia. I have the impression that Eastern Europe is usually used as a synonym to the countries east of the Iron Curtain; Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania and the numerous countries that used to be Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union.
