Fiiiiiiiirrrrrreeeeee! Smoke, she is a risin'. Fire! Oh, smoke stack lightning, baby.

Gotta love me some Cult.

Another tragic day in Southern California. The Great Huell Howser, a mainstay of L.A. publicly funded television, has passed away. No one except Kill Devil Hill (maybe) will know who this guy is, but he was a California treasure. He had a local tv show in which he explored, with uncommon enthusiasm and a thick Tennessee accent, the relatively mundane lives of ordinary Californians. Sort of like a three-year-old who goes bananas when he sees a ladybug in the backyard. Here is perhaps his greatest moment:

It seems like I'm joking, but I'm actually pretty bummed about this. His show was probably one of the best 100 things about living in L.A.

Sorry to hear that Cornfed.

Speaking of caffeine and energy drinks, it takes 100 cups of coffee to actually kill you. Also, I love Monster energy! They have the biggest variety of different types of ingredients that give you energy and they make many sugar free flavors that taste super great.

I hate my Monday shift. Working 11am to 8pm just really takes a lot out of your day and it's the ONLY day I work those hours. The rest of the week I work 8 to 5...what sense does that make? None.

And my winter vacation is officially over; back to school in about 8 hours :(

Post-Christmas new music splurge:
Baroness — Yellow and Green (thanks Cornfed)
Mastodon — The Hunter (thanks NP)
Opeth — Watershed (thanks both of you and more than a few others)
Soundgarden — King Animal (that one is all me)

I've had all four shuffling on a playlist with Coheed and Cambria's The Afterman (a pre-Christmas buy I am still getting to know) and am struck by how complementary they are
— like one, you'll probably like the other four.

I still haven't heard the entire King Animal but I certainly intend to do so. I've only heard two songs so far and they are pretty good, so I'll check it out.

Double post and random thought. Would people still go to the beach when 3D and 4D become mainstream and everyone will be able to have the beach in their home?

Haven't listened to it enough to give a fair review. But it sounds like Soundgarden. And in my world that's good.

Will it be warm? Will there be a cool breeze? Water to dip your toes in? And will you be able to tan?
Electronic media certainly has changed the way people socialize, but a day at the beach is a pretty tactile experience.

That's what they say will happen in the future. Technology will be able to provide you with all kinds of sensory experiences. I'm not sure that's a good thing though.

Depends: Is this technology going to use social media to create the illusion that you're at the beach with other people? I.e. you're using a social media program to go to a wholly virtual 4D beach and have virtual illusions of real people using the same program produced there?
