Do the brackets first: 1+2=3

6 is then divided by 2x3=6 and 6/6=1

Well, it's 6/2 - get the result, then multiply by 3. If you coded that formula within a computer program, or input it into a scientific calculator or spreadsheet - it will give 9.
 
Right, that makes sense. I got 1 first, but you are correct. Division first, then multiplication 6/2(3)=9
I guess if it was 6/[2(3)]=1
