Great Expectations
Sweet Pain
Beth

This is the first album where there aren't any lesser known songs that I want to see go far. Flaming Youth is close but that's it. The other two are pretty awful. I hate Great Expectations, it's my least favorite song so far. I also remembered why I haven't pulled this album out in nearly 5 years. Song wise, it is the best album so far. But it's so overproduced and it loses that kick that you get hearing all these songs live. Classics like Detroit Rock City and Shout It Loud disappointed me. I hate the studio version of God of Thunder. I can't stand the heavy reverb on the guitars. The orchestrations are pretty bad too. This is Kiss, not Pink Floyd. Bob Ezrin's work on Revenge and The Elder is stellar. But for Destroyer it was a mistake. Which might be a blasphemous opinion, everything about this album is largely praised. To me it's a prime example of why Kiss isn't a studio band.

Going Blind, Great Expectations, Comin' Home

About Destroyer, they semi recently released a new mix for Destroyer (Ezrin did it), it sound less over produced than the original.

Oh yes, I saw that but shrugged it off as a cash in. The bonus track didn't look too interesting either, a demo of Sweet Pain or something like that.

You listen to vinyls right? I did think about picking up the vinyl version of it, if it's any good.

It is a little more than that, I generally tread carefully with anything Kiss releases since there are a ton of cash grabs, but this one is actually worth while. The bonus version of Sweet Pain (which is the only version of Sweet Pain on the vinyl) has Ace's solo, the original track has one done by Dick Wagner. The Ace solo is a bit of a demo, but the rest of the song is the regular version.

The LP is pretty cool, the cover is the original cover they wanted to use, but was rejected as being a bit too dark. It is similar to the one that was released, but different. The only issue with the Vinyl (and CD) is that there is a small glitch at the start of Flaming Youth, they re-released a fixed version. I did not get a knew one, because it is incredibly minor. All in all, I think this is worth it. It is not a massive change from the original release, but the drums are much more in the forefront and it sounds a bit "crunchier" overall. The Destroyer REsurected album is on Spotify if you want to hear it

Didn't know about spotify, I'll just listen to it there then. Might fix some of my gripes with the album.

I've never actually taken the time to think about it, but God of Thunder is probably in my top 10.

At this point it's tough to vote for anything on Destroyer. God of Thunder is a cool song but I always liked a lot of the other classics more. Can't stand the production on this studio version either.

And speaking of that, I listened to the remix. I was pleasantly surprised; a lot of my issues with the album were fixed by this new mix. Songs like Detroit Rock City and Shout It Out Loud had more power and everything sounded really balanced.

Glad you liked the remix, it was really well done and I pretty much consider it Destroyer now.

I think the drums really make the remix. Peter Criss did some real cool stuff on this album and before it was buried quite a bi more than it should have been.

100,000, Comin Home, Got to Choose

Yea, I noticed he was doing some different stuff on that album.

See You In Your Dreams

Really great album. The good song writing of Destroyer meets a more fitting production. Eddie Kramer was perfect for Kiss. Out of place songs like Great Expectations and Sweet Pain are replaced by more fitting tunes. Some of my favorites are on here too, like Makin' Love and I Want You.

Peter has some good stories in his book about the making of this album. Namely Ezrin pushed him (and all of them) really hard to be better musically and that he made a mistake trying to keep up with Ezrin in coke consumption.

Yea I remember seeing something about Ezrin pushing them. Didn't know about the coke thing

I think in the long run, having Ezrin was a great move, but I don't know if it really shows on Destroyer. At least not as much as it does on Elder and Revenge.
