Judas Priest

Been listening to Invincible Shield the last couple of days, the bonus tracks really ruin the impression of the album
The key word here is "bonus" though.

That being said, I really like all three of them. The Lodger is the first outside-writer track since what, the Painkiller album (A Touch of Evil)? Really cool stuff.

Has anyone here bought the remixed Rocka Rolla CD yet?
No, but I did listen to it a few weeks back. Solid work by Tom Allom.

I think they aren't shit, but they are definitely a drop down in standard from the rest. If the album ended on Giants in the Sky, you're going away thinking "that was a real solid album".

Just bonus tracks in general is what annoys me. Put them on a second disc, otherwise they fuck things up. Can they be really called bonus if they are, and always have been, part of the original album release?

They aren't on the standard vinyl edition, so yes, I think you can call them that.

I'd rather have Escape From Reality and Sons of Thunder as bonus tracks than Fight of Your Life and Vicious Circle though. Sons of Thunder in particular has b-side written all over it, while Vicious Circle has the most delicious, clap-back lyrics directed at K.K. and sounds very much like a better Flamethrower.

Um, those are bonus songs. I really like 2 of them.

I think they feel fresh (despite the obvious callbacks with the riffs) and have a good songwriting ideas. Definitely the level of the album imo.
Fight Of Your Life's chorus is so melodic and memorable, while the transition to Vicious Circle's one is great and feels classic later era Priest. Given the lack of a proper solos, I don't think it was ever meant to be on the album. Agreed it's a perfected Flame Thrower.

I wouldn't want to lose the heaviness and chorus of Escape From Reality (some other parts, yes). I would trade Sons Of Thunder and Disguise, but at the same time I like some parts of them. Sons Of Thunder could have been a typical B-Side, yeah. Like Flame Thrower.

Fight of Your Life is one of the best Richie-era tracks. I love the heavy Killing Machine (hell, maybe even Rocka Rolla?) vibes it offers. IMO they should've put it on the regular version of the album and Trail By Fire should have taken FoYL place as one of the bonus tracks.

Vicious Circle isn't the most interesting song on the album, but I enjoy Rob's vocal lines in the prechorus and the chorus. But overall, it sounds more like a song written for the Halford band rather than a Judas Priest tune. Which is funny because Glenn wrote this one.

The Lodger is probably one of the weirdest tracks they've ever done, but I think it should be considered a cover song. Bob Halligan wrote it for the screening of The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog (which is a silent movie), but he never released it, so Priest took it, made some changes, and here it is. I like it, although it's very different from what fans could expect from the band. I can sense some King Diamond and Ghost vibes in this one, it's very theatrical and hmmm, narrative. Just a little experiment, but I guess that stuff like this is one of the reasons why I still find Judas Priest fascinating.

It's always been my least fav track on Invincible Shield. Sounds like something written during the Redeemer of Souls era, a weaker version of Sword of Damocles.

I love Trial By Fire. That tagline riff on the chorus after Halford says, "branded a liar" is one of the catchiest Priest moments for me.

A weaker version of Sword of Damocles is still a top tier Priest song.

Confirmation that they won't play the full Painkiller album on tour. Not sure who expected they would?
