Iron Maiden video interviews / shows

People have their opinions of course but Maiden wanted Janick for a reason and if they didn't want him then they would have tossed him when Adrian came back. For Trunk to say that Janick is not right for Maiden is not for him to say. He's not in the band so he can't make that decision. Let Janick do what he wants. He IS in one of the biggest metal bands in the world after all.

You are right Moon Child, the decision is up to Maiden or at least Steve and Rod. I very much dislike Janick's attitude onstage, and his writing contribution has dramatically fallen down recently (which is a shame because he is a very good songwriter, better than Adrian I would say), but if he is in the band it is because he is considered usefull. And bashing him in front of one his fellow bandmember is just rude and insane. And he looks like a very nice bloke.

Funny thing is, I'm sure Trunk wouldn't have the guts to say what he thinks about Janick infront of Steve or maybe even Bruce (not unless he has already?) or if they called him out on it, I'm sure he'd try to cover his ass somehow.

I totally agree with the comments in support of Janick. Going back to some early criticism of Janick, I honestly don't see what the issue is.

If Janick was showboating & really fucking about (i.e. not playing); hogging the limelight; upstaging other band members; prancing about (which he does) saying "look at me" (which he doesn't); or he was just generally being an arrogant, useless, disruptive element --then the criticism would be justified; regardless of what Steve or anyone within the band thought.

However Janick is, & does, none of this. He just does his own thing; he contributes hugely to Maiden's onstage performance; he contributes as much as any member to Maiden's live sound; & he writes plenty enough (compared to Dave or Nicko). I enjoy his onstage "antics" & feel Maiden would be the poorer without him. Frankly, other than the matter of some of his solos (live only), most of the criticism is without much substance.

What "Maiden think" is an irrelevance, if people genuinely thought Janick would be better elsewhere; we should be able to say what we think. But, I for one, would have been pretty pissed if he'd been pushed out to make way for Adrian's return. (Not sure if this was ever on the cards.)

I must confess, the first time I saw Janick live I too was a bit put off by the prancing — quite a contrast from the ultra-cool Smith stage presence.
But it didn't take long to get used to it.
More to the point, look at what Gers does bring: the rough-edged solo style that injects an element of wildness that maturity has tried to gnaw away from Maiden; the gothic touch to some of his riffing; and — most importantly — some killer songwriting.
Add in the fact that he just seems to be such a laid-back, class-act gentleman, well let's just say you'd have to be close-minded fool not to want him in the band.

Just as an addendum for those not keeping score:
Be Quick or Be Dead, Wasting Love, Lord of the Flies, Man on the Edge, Edge of Darkness, The Unbeliever, Ghost of the Navigator, Dream of Mirrors, Out of the Silent Planet, Dance of Death, The Legacy, The Alchemist, The Talisman...
Think the band would be better for not having those tracks in the catalogue?

Bruce interviewed by Eddie Trunk in 2000. Sounds like it's right before the release of BNW.

Great interview. Thanks, Mosh!

I found the song he is talking about from Halford's album - One You Love to Hate. I hadn't heard it before, it's very Roy Z-sounding.

WARNING: SETLIST SPOILERS IN ALL INTERVIEWS IN THIS POST!

Bruce on Download 2013 (interview).

"I say. It's been forty-five years" Hahaha!
Brilliant as well: "I turned up and you played all this new material!"

One more, made right after (or before):

Not exactly a low-profile car. But that's Nicko and discretion doesn't seem to be his greatest quality. How strange it must be to drive such a flashy car in a place with so many poor people. Anyway, I like him.

Not here, no. :)

EDIT: As for Nicko and his car, he can spend his money the way he wants. It's his, he's earned it, so it's entirely up to him.
