And Invaders is a lost cause — it's not nearly as bad as people say, but Maidenfans doesn't put much stock into the high-energy songs.
I like Invaders. It's not their best opener, but it should be a NWOBHM classic.

There are very few songs in the Maiden catalog that I like less than "Invaders". It's infuriatingly annoying to me. I'm usually a fan of high-energy tracks, but that chorus...blech.

I'm all for high-energy songs.....just not Invaders. I don't hate the song, it just doesn't stick out to me like the other songs on that album and it's not a strong opener when compared to songs like Aces High or Where Eagles Dare for example. It doesn't come close. An opener is suppose to draw you into an album and Invaders doesn't do that for me. What does draw me are the songs surrounding it....except for Gangland of course. :P

I hear you on Invaders, even if I disagree.
But I still maintain the most energetic songs - with the exception of Aces high and the Evil that Men Do - are consistently rated lower than the epic ones around here.
Purgatory is gone, Invaders will follow, and it's not just the obscure energetic tracks. Run to the hills will be gone soon, 2 Minutes, Number of the Beast - band staples that likely won't make the playoffs
Not a criticism, just an observation.

And not a bad observation. But it's just the nature of ardent fans, we get sick of the overplayed songs and eventually find them to be less substantial. Though these are all fun songs and enjoyable live, I will argue that most of those songs aren't that great - with the exception of 2 Minutes to Midnight, which I like a whole bunch.

Granted, it does seem to make little sense that something like Run to the Hills wouldn't make the top ten, but that's the nature of the beast. If we were doing this on a Metallica message board, you can bet "Enter Sandman" wouldn't crack the top ten either. If we were polling people on the street who listen to the radio, purchase "Best Of" collections, and buy their concert tickets at the front gate day-of-show because they just heard about the gig and had the day off, however, we'd get entirely different results.

Message boards attract obsessives, and by our very nature, most of us are opinionated, uppity bitches.

I haven't been an ardent Metallica fan for...uhh... 17 years now maybe, but Enter Sandman is not on my Top 20 list.

But I fully agree with your last sentence. :D

I remember the same thing happening in the Adrian Survivor. Still bitter about some of those...

Remember Tomorrow
Wrathchild
Murders in the Rue Morgue
Total Eclipse

Can't believe Wrathchild is still in, and Purgatory is out.
