Re: Iron Maiden Survivor 2010: Virtual XI round 3 (Oct 11-12)

The way I had to listen to The X Factor was the same way I had to listen to The Final Frontier. With AMOLAD, DOD, and BNW, everything hit straight away. After my first listen to AMOLAD, I knew exactly what songs I liked (Colours, Brighter, Longest, Greater, Legacy), what songs I thought were okay (Reincarnation) and what songs I didn't care for (World, Pilgrim, Shadows, and Light). So far, the only thing that has slipped is The Longest Day, which is wending down to mediocre. Great intro. First 3 minutes are fantastic, but after the first chorus, it loses some magic.

The Final Frontier, I am still rearranging and pondering. I am only sure of the top spot, everything else is shifting. TXF is still the same for me. I know the top four spots. That's it.

I used to appreciate The X Factor more before I started listening to Blaze solo material.  Probably hearing more of Blaze made his contribution to Maiden a bit less unique and special.  Nowadays the album is only about halfway down the list, whereas it once used to be my second favourite.  The Sign of the Cross and The Edge of Darkness still beat the crap out of most Maiden 80s epics, though.

Futureal (I mean, what kind of name of a song is that anyway), The Clairvoyant (the main riff and solo have always felt a little too upbeat for song that is a little dark/mysterious), Moonchild (amazing guitarwork and glad to hear it live in 08, but a somewhat anti-climactic chorus for an opener, imo).

In regards to Loosey's opinion of The Longest Day, I actually find the riffs during the instrumental break to be quite epic and Davey's solo at the end of the song is beautiful - OK, beautiful is not a very metal word but hey, his brief solo is full of emotion and it makes me visualise the dead soldiers on the beach and their souls rising up, up and away on their journey to the next world.  A highlight of AMOLAD...

Round 10.3 results:
Futureal is eliminated.
Virus is promoted to the Quarterfinals, and The Clansman is promoted to the Semifinals.

Brave New World has joined the battle!
Ghost Of The Navigator and Brave New World are held back for the Finals.

Now we ought to see some of those SIT/SSOASS songs dropping off...

The Mercenary chases The Long Distance Runner, while The Fallen Angel observes dispassionately.
(Those are the only 2 BNW songs I plan to vote for.)
