Iron Maiden Sells Half of Their Catalog, Name And Likeness Rights to Pophouse Entertainment

Pophouse did the virtual ABBA thing. Please no, not for Maiden, I beg of you.

On the positive side, they referred to the RFYL live release as a "cinematic and home entertainment targeted project."

Sounds like a proper 50th tour film to me, not just a show with some extras. I like that.

And sounds like they have lots of money now to "realise dreams." If those dreams involve new music and live extravaganzas then I'm in.

The proliferation of merchandising streams means nothing to me. Music and shows is my only concern. Well, that and gossip, obviously.

This is big but I've no idea what it will mean for the long term.
In my mind it means they are planning for the inevitable end of Maiden as a touring band but not the franchise and the IP. It's sad in that way. Pophouse also bought Kiss and they are creating a similar experience to that of the ABBA Voyage in London. I hope to God we won't ever see anything like that. Pophouse is the company of Björn Ulveus of ABBA fame, and I have some trust in him, that's for sure. I hope they will treat the IP with respect and delicacy.

Yes ,thats things that some bands do when they are retired

I certainly don't want to see a Maiden hologram show. Not until they are all cold in the ground and by that stage I'd probably pay top dollar to have a taste of The Good Old Days

Come on! A virtual Di´Anno screaming Iron Maiden´s gonna get ya, A hologram of Eddie rising from the grave, a loop of a prancing Janick, Sharon pelted with eggs while Bruce sings These Colours Don´t Run,...

Ultimately, if they collaborated on tour, the museum, and the recording, they have presumably proved their value and trustworthiness to the Maiden team. The brand needs capable hands over the next decade as the band inevitably rides off into the sunset, and I'm certain they'll be collaborators on the eventual farewell show(s)/tour too.

A tinge of sadness to it, but putting some responsibility for the brand in safe and capable hands is a smart move.

Suddenly not feeling optimistic about the near future of this band.
What troubles you, mon amigo?

I think it could be exciting, some good events and releases as we slide fully into the final stages of active Maiden. I certainly think it's better than passing the rights on to strangers post retirement.

To add, all this is flavoured by the fact that I'm certain of one more album and at least one more tour.

On a serious note, the end feels nearer than ever. I'm also convinced now that the virtual Iron Maiden show circus is going to be unleashed sooner or later.

The 2028 tour could very well be another GRAND BEST OF TOUR, with the visuals powered by Pophouse—a way of introducing fans to what's coming next. Or it could be an album tour, but with the visual grandeur of what's to come.

Either way, there's no denying they're packing their bags and preparing to sail off into the sunset. And if they can make shitloads of money doing it, they will—just like most of us would. That's life.

To my recollection, everyone that signs with Pophouse is already retired (Kiss, ABBA - although Bjorn Ulvaeus owns Pophouse), retiring (Cyndi Lauper), or is dead (Tina Turner, Avicii)

If the band had already retired? Sure, that's fine. But if this is to be an active unit for awhile longer, expect another cabaret act greatest hits tour. I get the feeling Rod, Andy, Steve (him in particular) and Bruce may be loving the dollar signs now, but their say in matters is going to be stifled.

All this means is that they are looking to capitalise as much as possible their last few years as an active band and at the same time secure a healthy and steady revenue stream for when they retire with minimal effort on their part.
They've been a company for some time now and they have been slowly becoming a corporate money making machine.
this just accelerates things and secures them financially after their retirement.

The band’s live presence is legendary, and Koravos says they have no intention of cribbing the band’s ability to tour.

“One of the attractions of this catalog is the incredible fandom that surrounds them, and they’ve done the most incredible job over the years of giving those fans amazing shows every single time,” said Koravos, whose husband, Stuart Galbraith, CEO of KMJ Entertainment Group, was the promoter of Maiden’s recent Eddfest shows in Knebworth, United Kingdom. “I have a deep understanding of the Maiden fan, and I think the band would say they’ve brought us on board to turbo charge them, [not] to help them hang up their boots.”

Is there any chance that his might result in them releasing live shows from the vault? Stuff like reunion 99 or AMOLAD. Or is this disconnected from that and has nothing to do with the vault?

But wait... if Pophouse now owns 50% of all things Maiden, they can influence how the last Iron Maiden album will sound. There's now a fat 50% chance the upcoming album will actually sound great, thanks to proper production! The only tiny downside is that Iron Maiden's final album might turn out to be a pop record.
Can't wait to buy my pink Iron Maiden T-shirt!
