They didn't, they only said something about a new disease. I think the name AIDS didn't even exist in the time the film takes place.
What Brigantium said. It's not explicitly stated it's AIDS, but it's almost universally established it is. I think it wasn't known as AIDS at that period in the movie. I said it was a vague connection
