Iron Maiden on American Idol

The only think worth watching on the show are the first couple episodes, when the judges screen thousands of people around the company and the show's editors focus on the more entertaining fuck-ups.  And that's only if you're partial to carny freaks.

We used to watch the show during my military service in the common room, it was great fun with a whole room of guys making fun of the failures. :D

So a little research indicates that from Seasons 1-3 the band was only present from the semifinals on.

Since 2004, the band has been present from the very beginning.

Onhell is still very wrong, and I was wrong about the band ALWAYS being there.

Sheesh.  Its a good thing we don't have a thread devoted to all the times Onhell has been wrong.

Though, that'd probably get merged with the 100k thread...

HEY! How else do you think I kill threads? ;) But in this instant I wasn't wrong, just half right. :p

So, am I the only one who finds the video someone cool? Sure, the guy isn't very metal looking, but the fact that he is singing Maiden on a show like that is pretty damn awesome.

This isn't directed at anyone here, but I think it's funny how some metalheads are hypocritical. They'll bitch about the fact that metal isn't shown on shows like American Idol, but then call the singers posers on the rare events that some sort of rock or metal appears.

Nope. I enjoyed the video too. The guy didn't try to dres as a poser and he could sing really well. I liked the cover a lot.

In regards to American Idol, I used to be addicted to it. I must say that the show is some of the crappiest stuff ever, but you can't ignore the talent a couple (out of the entire show's history of course) of contestants. Carrie Underwood's actually one of my favourite singers. :D On the other hand, you get people like Lee DeWho? and other people that should never be on TV.

I just want reality TV to go away.

Not me, I bitch because metal does appear on shows like that.  Like I said earlier, one guy (who went on to win the show) sang The Evil That Men Do, and metal just should not be played like that.  He sang it really well, that's not the issue, but it's played to a crowd who's just sitting there and clearly doesn't appreciate the music one bit except for a few people.  Most American metalheads (and others too, but I've seen this mainly on Americans) see metal going mainstream as some kind of dream to strive for, but when you experience it, it's really not that cool.

You're kidding right? When I saw the Finnish guy sing a few years back and this current clip of Swedish Idol, the crowd is going NUTS... far from "not appreciating it." As for Metal in America being "mainstream"... It had it's day in the 80's, probably won't happen again, but it is at a nice place right now. Not in your face, but recognizable.

I would have checked, but I couldn't find the clip on Youtube anymore.  I might remember it wrong, but I'm pretty sure they were sitting, and definitely not going nuts.

But, my opinion still stands.  Metal does not work well as mainstream.

that actually wasn't bad at all lol, i thought it was gonna be a complete botch like they do to songs here in US, and swedish chicks are hottt

^ Project Runway is actually interesting. Me and my wife are watching the current season and I'm enjoying it. So actually: Yes to Top Chef and Project Runway.

But I scoff at the abomination which is ANTM. The contestants are annoying has hell and I can't stand Tyra Banks. She seriously needs to STFU. The same goes for everyone else on the show. Maybe with the exception of Nigel Barker and the Jay that doesn't look like a drag queen.
Oh, and I loathe pretty much everything shown on The CW. Just in varying degrees.
