Satellite 15... The Final Frontier
To Tame A Land
Afraid to Shoot Strangers
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner
The Wicker Man
Blood on the World's Hands

That last choice was very hard and maybe not even 100% correct. I like both songs very much. In the end I decided to give credit to the song with the lesser appreciation on this forum.

Only 19 voters this time? :o

Re: Iron Maiden "Head-to-Head" Song Tournament (Round 6: Group C)

Well there's still 19 hours left at least. I think several more votes will come in before the 48 hours is up ;)

Re: Iron Maiden "Head-to-Head" Song Tournament (Round 6: Group C)

I never understood all the love for Long Distance runner

Re: Iron Maiden "Head-to-Head" Song Tournament (Round 6: Group C)

Me neither, let alone against one of Maidens best ever songs under 5 minutes.

Lord of the Flies is over 5 minutes.

TLOTLDR is very rich in its music. People who are not into long, melodic, instrumental parts might not appreciate this song that much. For the rest I can't explain why you guys don't like it. You haven't explained it yourselves (in this topic at least).

For the most part, I really enjoy the  "long, melodic, instrumental parts" in Maiden songs ... their longer songs are generally my favorites of theirs and most of them really grab me.  For example, when TFF came out, it took forever for me to get to Starblind because I kept playing Isle of Avalon over and over ... in the case of LDR, for me, it is just not an interesting song musically.  It is hard to quantify, but it does not grab me the same way the vast majority of Maiden songs do.  I would not go as far as calling it terrible, I would say it is mediocre.

This instrumental part is musically very different so that might be it. TLOTLDR is full of harmonies, and the song is much faster.

Revelations
The Clairvoyant
Afraid to Shoot Strangers
Lord of the Flies
The Wicker Man
Dance of Death

The ones in italics were essentially ties for me.  I picked the ones I did because I've seen them live.

I'm with Foro on this one. Those melodic parts in LOTLDR are varied and they make me feel I'm actually out on the road, running. Maybe it helps that I actually enjoy running  :D

Re: Iron Maiden "Head-to-Head" Song Tournament (Round 6: Group C)

I don't know, when I am out running, A Matter of Life and Death helps me keep pace pretty well.

Re: Iron Maiden "Head-to-Head" Song Tournament (Round 6: Group C)

Hm, a couple of votes fewer than usual this round.

I'll be tallying stuff in 6 hours or so.

Re: Iron Maiden "Head-to-Head" Song Tournament (Round 6: Group D)

New set of songs are up! My picks:

These Colours Don't Run
Genghis Khan
The Legacy
Powerslave
The Edge of Darkness
Deja-Vu

Powerslave vs El Dorado will be so lopsided. It was as easy to choose as all of the other were hard.

Re: Iron Maiden "Head-to-Head" Song Tournament (Round 6: Group D)

Wasted Years
Genghis Khan
The Legacy
Powerslave
Sea Of Madness
Deja-Vu.

Just wondering, how many rounds are there? :)

Re: Iron Maiden "Head-to-Head" Song Tournament (Round 6: Group D)

Genghis Khan wasted 22 years on the sea of Madness, trying to kill the powerslave.

@Black_Thunder: I guess at worst case we're looking at 153 rounds  :D 154 studio album songs, including Sanctuary, Twilight Zone and Total Eclipse, and worst case is they all have to face each other. To avoid that, it's important to keep perfectly track of which song has beaten which, so that we avoid too many completely unnecessary duels (think Hallowed vs Fear is the Key)

Re: Iron Maiden "Head-to-Head" Song Tournament (Round 6: Group D)

The first one was so hard! Overall, another fairly hard round.

These Colours Don't Run
Futureal
The Legacy
Powerslave
The Edge of Darkness
22 Acacia Avenue

Genghis Khan
Killers
Powerslave
The Edge of Darkness
22 Acacia Avenue

The first choice I found so hard, really couldn't split them.
