Iron Maiden Download Festival 2022 confirmed

Yeah that's a perfect band to compare them to both in metal-adjacentness and the sort of fan who will be into them, but Muse are also way bigger than Biffy Clyro.

Yeah, Muse were pretty big in Germany in the late noughties.
I just looked it up, the other band I was thinking of was called Pendulum. I never heard of them before or after the festival and I have no recollection of what they sounded like.

A 2021 Maiden tour was always going to be a stretch. It also seemed like even then they were merely scheduling LOTB shows for the sake of contractual obligations and are probably ready to get going on whatever the next phase is.

I wonder what the approach will be for the next album if it turns out that Maiden is not going to be touring for another year. A lot of bands seem to have conceded that touring won’t be a possibility for awhile and are just releasing the albums they’ve been sitting on. I can’t imagine Maiden doing the same thing, but who knows.

It does seem like Maiden are ready to move on with the Rio and Download announcements. Hopefully we get the new album this year, we should at least hear about it before the end of the year.

I'm sure the 2020 graphic had the Legacy of the Beast branding on it. So it's probably a good bet to say LotB Part 3 is gonna be scrapped in favour of a new album cycle.

As it is right now, it can go either way. It could be the 3rd leg of LOTB or it could be a new album tour. We just can't know for now.

True - but it is worth noting the 2019 press release for Download 2020 explicitly called out LOTB, whereas today's announcement says nothing. The Rock In Rio 2021 announcement also says nothing about LOTB, whereas the 2018 announcement did. I find it hard to believe they'd play RIR with the exact same tour and setlist again.

I would argue that Muse are also as big, if not bigger, than Maiden.

The fact they aren't saying could mean they don't actually know themselves
I dunno, this kinda reminds me of the Dec 2009 announcement for Sonisphere 2010. They hadn't even announced TFF at that point, so the press releases were all pretty generic.

If the LOTB tour goes into 2022 and a brand new studio album gets released more than 3 years after being recorded, there’s only one way ro describe it (sorry Jan!).

I'm inclined to agree with you and think they are saying nothing because they know what it will be but aren't ready to announce it yet i.e. a new album. But it's also possible they just don't want to say for definite because of the situation being what it is, no one can even be sure the gigs will go ahead and by being vague it keeps their options open in case situations change.

Thank Christ the Raven Age are on there, otherwise the main stage would be crap.

Still don't think I'll go.
