Iron Maiden Album Art Showdown

Not at all surprised to see Killers winning this by a landslide. Curious to see how far it’ll go.

Dunno if it’s time to start placing bets on the winner of the game or not. My prediction is one of the following:
— Killers
— TNOTB
— Powerslave
— LAD
— SiT
— SSOASS

The problem is I have no idea which one of them will actually take it. They’re all doing something different.

27 Killers +3
19 “Run to the Hills" +1
12 “Sanctuary" +2

2 "The Wicker Man" [alt. US promo]
0 "From Here to Eternity"
0 Donington Live 1992

30 Killers +3
20 “Run to the Hills" +1
14 “Sanctuary" +2

2 "The Wicker Man" [alt. US promo]
0 "From Here to Eternity"
0 Donington Live 1992

3 classics and 3 non entities, easy choice for this guy. Couldn't argue if Killers won the whole thing.

I feel like it's actually a pretty cool photo from the music video shoot...and a rare "just the band" photo for a singe. In line with what they were trying to do in the early 90s.
Yeah, cool band photo, Eddie as a biker or even from the video/Picture Disc cover on the same background from the video would have been good enough, but the first single from the album has Eddie (kind of an odd cover too), the other two don't, it always seemed odd to me. Although Wasting Love is difficult one for a cover with Eddie.

In line with what they were trying to do in the early 90's? Hmm not sure, the previous album has singles with Eddie. Only FOTD album is very odd, especially with an artist like Melvyn Grant. They could have even used one of his other album cover ideas specifically for From Here To Eternity, it would fit in a way.
Dunno if it’s time to start placing bets on the winner of the game or not. My prediction is one of the following:

— Killers
— TNOTB
— Powerslave
— LAD
— SiT
— SSOASS
I guess: SIT, Powerslave, LAD, Trooper...

is another art with Trooper Eddie (on a horse, yes!) and it's really cool. The details with the army, the colors (Eddie faces in the clouds!), the whole scene is perfect - like a continuation of the single cover. You can't go wrong with it. One of Herve's strongest.
DOD is ruined by the CGI and not finished, but compared to the others, I can vote for the idea. With a proper drawing (like live), it has its charm.
RIR DVD, only because I love cloud Eddie, and his face here is great and classic.

The First Ten Years is nice, but that's it. Eddie's Archive is a curious idea, but not fully developed or finished (I guess). And the grey color is not interesting for it, although probably fitting. FHTE gatefold is worst.

I wonder if with a different background for DOD cover (I would have made it a dark hall, but with the dominant red color ), it would have helped the emphasis to not be so much on the figures and to open the art more? Or they needed to be with costumes. Probably. Some of the figures are just so bad.
- I think the original art with just Eddie and the empty cover would have been bad too.

Speaking of DOD art - Eddie's Archive cover would have been fitting to be part of the DOD booklet/back cover with DOD Eddie face, more details and colors. It looks ancient, which is always cool. As an album cover? Not sure, Eddie needs to be in full, and to not repeat the previous cover.

9 Rock in Rio [DVD] +3
9 Maiden England '88 +1

3 Dance of Death
2 The First Ten Years +2
1 Eddie's Archive
0 "From Here to Eternity" [alt. gatefold]

10 Maiden England '88 +1
9 Rock in Rio [DVD]
5 Dance of Death +2
5 The First Ten Years +3

1 Eddie's Archive
0 "From Here to Eternity" [alt. gatefold]

These are all shit, The First 10 Years is okay as a cover for the box, but loses marks for the shit Eddie. Dance of Death is obviously the worst album cover, but it wouldn't take much to turn it into a pretty cool cover. Maiden England gets the last point by default but I hate it, there was no need to change the original cover and the Trooper reboot makes no sense since it's not even on it.

The other three are piss poor, Rock in Rio album has a good idea, the dvd ditches the idea but keeps the shit Eddie. Eddies Archive isn't really a cover as such and FHTE is just another shit still from the video.
