Iranian Election 2009

Re: Iranian Election Friday

I thought I saw on MSN that the Supreme Leader was ok with looking into any election fraud.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

Yeah, that's what he said.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

Interesting (and encouraging) to hear that Western journalists got a lot of help from all kinds of people in the capital. The Iranians smuggled the journalists in and out of buildings (to get a position to film without being seen) because they want the world desperately to see what's going on there.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

I heard yesterday that because they are banned from the streets, people are shouting phrases from rooftops, including Allahu Akbar. That is precisely what happened in 1978.

I can only hope that whatever the result is, it's not a massive violent crackdown Tianamen style.

It might well be.  It seems to be slowly building up, it has to be resolved one way or another.

So, I just returned from an anti-Ahmadinejad demonstration... there's better things for a broken knee than to hobble along the city's longest street for two hours in slow motion, but the statement counted.

I'm not sure. It happened when I played volleyball with my mates yesterday, but I can't tell you exactly what happened, only that my knee hurt like crazy yesterday, and I still can't walk properly.

I decided to give it a rest tomorrow (i.e. stay at home and move as little as possible) and if it hasn't improved by tomorrow evening, I'll see the doctor about it. Cheers! :)

Yeah, that was my estimation also. Although I wouldn't have thought it got international coverage.

As for the situation in Iran itself, it's anyone's guess what will happen now. After talking to three Iranians today, I basically got three different scenarios. And the death toll is rising... let's see what the night will bring (i.e. off to bed now).

Done. I doubt if Google will take a side in this matter though. But the yes-score is very high, at least.

Of course they won't. Google is the company that blocks search results in China.

In breaking news, Ayatollah Khamenei held a speech at Tehran university today. A short summary can be found here:

I saw the broadcast, and was amazed at how someone can keep lying to openly. At one point, he said "our election laws don't allow cheating." Well, duh. Cheating is never allowed, that's what makes it cheating.
