Very touching  :) Who's GG by the way ? He's an elected person ??

I tend to believe that the real western tradition is democracy with Monarchs established
Except France, Germany and Italy all the rest good reputable countries have a king, queen or both

The Governor General was appointed by the Prime Minister.  She is Mikaela Jean, a Haitian-born Montreal poet and author.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

Well, this election was rigged. Among other things, it is said that in electoral counties with a majority for Mousavi, the polling stations were closed up to three hours earlier than in those with majority for Mahmoud. Unrests in the big cities are to be expected.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

A friend of mine cried in class today. That kind of killed the mood...

Re: Iranian Election Friday

Especially when you consider how spread out the vote was last time....

It would be awesome to have Mousavi in power, but what I see from the information I get, is that at least in Iran
democracy is well established to hearts of lots of people -and this is a good thing for the future...

Re: Iranian Election Friday

Well, it is possible the courts will find error, too.  Doubtful, but possible.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

I think that it would take a revolution to get rid of the theocracy, and that can only happen if the young people are organized enough and motivated enough to care about changing the government, and if they are motivated and prepared to die for such a thing.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

Several members of the opposition seem to be arrested. It cannot be checked because the media can hardly do their work, and most of the telephone traffic is also down (Perun's friends can know this).

And this is what happened when people went out to protest.

"We want freedom"

Re: Iranian Election Friday

The video said "warning, contains disturbing images", so I expected something even worse.  At least they're not shooting civilians yet, but I'm not sure if the situation now is much better.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

I just read that a Dutch television team (from the program NOVA) is being thrown out of the country. They were filming near the building of opposition leader Mousavi. Present were Mousavi supporters and secret police in civilian clothes.

The cameraman and the reporter were arrested, pushed against a wall and they had to hand over their recording tapes.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

Yeah, it definitely is sounding like this election was rigged, and now they want to hide it.  Which is unfortunate, because obviously a fair and free election would make Iran look great....but at the same time, these people are getting angrier, which means they are less likely to continue supporting the system.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

All foreign reporter teams are banned from filming and taking pictures in Iran now.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

I watched the ARD evening news today, and the reporter said he was reporting from his office... but no chance of going out on the streets. One guy from his team was arrested as a sort of insurance that they don't go out and shoot pictures anyway.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

Hope and fear.

Hope because the people don't take it anymore. Today they gathered in the biggest demonstration since the Revolution of 1979.

Fear of the consequences. Already one person was shot to death, and who knows what may happen still.

Re: Iranian Election Friday

Yes, definitely people aren't taking these results lying down.  There definitely could be violence...if it leads to reform, it may be worth it.
