Interesting chords/key/musical ideas in maiden songs

To tame a land is a big one. If I recall correctly.

The intro how the chord sequence goes from a standard maiden sound of B-G but then the next time round B-G#

Or the main riff is a kind of standard metal thing the first time round with the whole E F#G progression thing but then the next time round is suddenly using Eb out of nowhere.

Very different for them.
 
The word is that To Tame A Land borrows heavily from Isaac Albéniz’s Asturias (Leyenda). I had to look it up, couldn't remember the name of the song. So maybe this alleged 'borrowing' accounts for the different vibes.
 
I always liked the minor -> major key shift in “Age Of Innocence” for the chorus, plus a lot of the choices in the instrumental part that follows.

Yah, there's much I dislike about that song musically but that bit always hooked me. I think Gates of Tomorrow and the other filler one who's name escapes me do the same. I dislike most of the tune and then ooooh, something catchy.
 
I'd say the I, bVII, V, bVi progression in both Run Silent Run Deep and No Prayer for the Dying. Fun Fact....Kim Wilde's cover of You Keep Me Hangin' On uses the same progression.

What would that progression be if you just wrote the specific notes out, out of interest?

I think it would be E D B C

I only got it from that great shout to Kim Wilde's cover of You Keep Me Hangin' On. Absolute banger of a tune I haven't listened to in a while
 
Nothing to do with chords, progressions, or keys, but the part that always perks my ears is Nicko hitting the snare off the beat in that little 20-30 second part during the instrumental for Sign of the Cross. I know one or two drummers Blaze has employed in his solo days couldn't do it or didn't bother trying. His current Absolva drummer just plays the beat straight through.

He's very basic that fella. He's got better but he's very very basic

Did Jeff Singer play it right? Blazes first drummer. He was excellent
