But honestly, I've ever raelly heard three singers who can do distorted high screams really really good. That's Halford, Ripper and then Ralf Scheepers. Matt isn't that good with heights (at least, it's much more obvious that he uses falsetto), his strength lies in the low and middle range.
Well, that's good if you like that sort of distorted high scream. I prefer low and mid-range voices.
The thing with Ripper is, I think he has a good melodic singing voice, as demonstrated on tracks such as
Valley Forge,
A Charge to Keep, and also a fairly powerful shouting voice, as on
I Don't Need This, which he should work on more. Instead, he keeps annoying me with his shrieks that are neither very original, nor very pleasant to listen to. I never understood where the appeal is in having an entire song shrieked (or, as you would say, done in falsetto); I can only tolerate it when the rest of the song is good, musically.
There is a difference, if the screaming and shrieking is part of the song's progression, as on
Aces High. What I mean to say is, it's all about the good measure, and not just for the sake of doing something that is technically impressive. The thing is, you can hit all the high notes you want, and it may be an impressive feat, but it just doesn't
sound very good.
The above is, of course, only my opinion, and I'm getting tired of writing a disclaimer on it every time, so just take it as that from now on.
