I wonder what the boys think of their work being leaked......

One example: Some people who run metal bars have contacts to people in the industry, usually because they frequent these bars. And since the atmosphere is always a very friendly one, these contacts may sometimes bring a USB stick to the bar so the barkeeper can play the new album in advance to offer his guests something special (like I got to hear the last Amon Amarth album a few days early for my birthday). And sometimes if both sides have had a drink too much, the barkeeper will put the files on your MP3 player if you ask him. And then you are the one who puts it on the internet.

It's one possible scenario, there are others.

I heard of another: the new album is already delivered to shops - probably to ensure a smooth start on the official release date. So there is no reason for someone in such a shop not to unpack, listen, grab and upload :-)

From what I understood, the album was leaked by some guy in Italy who managed to get it a week before the release date. Probably had someone who works in a cd shop or something like that.

Why would he leak the album? Why the hell not? Everyone here is very eager to hear the new stuff, just a few guys are actually waiting to get the CD in their hands and listen to the album for the first time. I don't see a reason why any of us should be outraged by this, Maiden isn't going to lose any money over it, because:

a) everyone who intended to buy the album will actually buy it,
b) it's not the band who will lose any money over it, just EMI.

I'm not sure; I think the Italian was the naked dude who wouldn't share it.  I could be wrong though.  I do know he was naked though.

I see, Per. By the way - good to see you back here on the board! How was the show?

You're right.

Out of curiosity, how does that work?

Mindblowing. The Sonisphere gig was probably the second best one I've been to.

I personally don't believe any of the album sales goes towards helping pay for the tour. I think that's what ticket prices and merchandise are for. Which is why a band can tour with out releasing an album.

Your analogy doesn't really work. It cost a lot of money for each Ferrari Made. Each Ferrari has to go through the process of being made.

Maiden doesn't have to recored each song for each CD. They do it once. It's not like they play the complete album in the studio, and put it on a disc, then play the complete album in the studio again for the next disc.

Not to mention a download is digital. I can make a hundred copies of a song, and it won't cost anyone anything.

I'm saying all this not to present an argument for justifying illegal downloading. I'm saying this, because you don't really need an argument for why you shouldn't. The strongest, and most easiest argument to follow, is by simply stating it is illegal.

When you focus on album sales effecting tours, or trying and create an analogy using a Ferrari, it because less about whether or not it's legal, and more about ways to justify it.

Fair enough, the Ferrari comparison wasn't perfect. The point still stands.

And album sales do go towards paying for the tour. That huge stage doesn't buy itself, and they have to have that ready before any tickets are sold.

Iron Maiden's not a nickel and dime business, mate. They have plenty of cash to get this stuff done. I'm sure Rod makes sure everything's in the black. Album sales likely are just added pudding.

I'm happy for you mate! I went all the way to Norway to see them for the first time in my life! I was right there in front of H on the barrier! :edmetal:
I just can't a word in any language I speak to describe how good was seeing them play!
