Yeah... I get your point. If you read my opinion in my case it's the complete opposite but for the same reasons. As much as I like Death Metal I never really digged Crytopsy. And although I prefer old school DM there's stuff in the vein of None So Vile I really like (an example is Beneath The Massacre). And sure the guys play tremendously well and are (rightfully so) revered in the scene but it really never managed to hook me the slightest.Despite being an 80's thrash-head, I just could never get into Dark Angel. Burning of Sodom is alright cut though. None So Vile is a classic Death metal album with an awesome atmosphere. Love the bass on that album too. Slit Your Guts is killer.
On the other hand Darkness Descends is your typical "out of my way and full speed ahead taking no prisoners" mid 80's Thrash album I really love. Nevertheless it's the only album in the band's discography I like.
It's curious how some really cool albums that gather some consensus get utterly different feedback fans from both genres like you and me. And if one has the insight of giving value despite his own opinion that's not a bad thing. Quite the opposite.
