GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I positively love Powerslave, but it's not my favorite ever album or even my favorite Maiden album. I will say this, if you combine the best half of Powerslave with the best half of Piece of Mind, two fairly similar albums style wise, I would consider it the best album in the history of metal without a shadow of a doubt - It would even stomp Operation Mindcrime, which is my favorite ever album.

Flash of the Blade instead of Die With Your Boots On is a shocker!

Easiest. Round. EVAR.

Ride The Lightning totally deserves to be at this level, while Rising totally does not. No contest whatsoever. Sorry, The Pornfed MrSrfknisserShmoolhickielter Yaxnight — your nominee is pretty good, but Dr PerhooseCornenflaxed Jicknightiana’s Potoman’s choice really is one of the greatest metal albums of all time. Winner: Metallica

Voting for Lightning solely because there’s nothing on it as bad as the single line chorus of Do You Close Your Eyes. Otherwise, they’re equal.

Also, Puppets should be here instead. And by here, I mean the final.

Eh, I think I'm prepared for tomatoes to be thrown my way. Here it goes...

Majority of DIO material doesn't do anything for me.

Dio is an incredible singer. In those made up games (pick your own dream band) I'd probably choose him. The guy could make "Mary had a little lamb" sound amazing. He could take any melody ever written and would nail it. But when it comes to material that was written for him, I don't know what happens. Take this album for example. His singing is great, Blackmore is great, Cozy Powel is a thumb up and yet, for me, this material is as generic as it gets. I'm not going to say it because it's an "album from 1976" because there are even older albums which just jump out of the speaker and somehow stood that test of time. I've listened to "Rising" over different periods of my life (as some other Dio material) and not a single time has it clicked with me (80s Dio Sabbath excluded). Furthermore, I can even dig deep and find good stuff about it, but truth be told, nothing good that I say about it "surfaced up" - I had to dig for it. So while I can acknowledge it's quality, I've got to admit that to my ears it's "just another rock/metal" record.

Voted Metallica.
Also ...And Justice For All should've been here (AMOLAD isn't that good)

In the strictest definition of fillers, i.e. tracks written at short notice to fill out the album, tracks like Murders in the Rue Morgue and Killers fit that definition.

The tracks I reckon you mean as being weak, are not fillers, all long established live tracks
Helloween's "Dr Stein" was originally intended as a B-side.

And... "The Duellists" is THE filler off Powerslave in my opinion. It belongs with "Quest for Fire" and "The Prophecy" : great music, but not time (will?) to develop proper vocal melodies.

Stab right through the heart...
When I first heard Powerslave, back in the good old 90´s this was actually my favourite song.
That jawdroppingly great instrumental section is one of the main reasons why I became a fan. And it got better after each listen.
It was the low point for me... at first. Then after I stopped thinking of it as a “Losfer Words” / “Where Eagles Dare” hybrid and as “The Duellists”, it shot up. The guitars on that song are just incredible.

Exactly... hence my disappointment at the other main aspect of the song : vocal lines and lyrics. ;)
EDIT : thinking of it, we can notice the lack of intro/riff.

Metallica wins our third place matchup. Congratulations to Rainbow for going deep, a really surprising run for me to see happen.

And congratulations to all the ~250 bands who showed up in the GMAC. But here we are, the final matchup. After hundreds of matches and thousands and thousands of votes...

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

There isn't a huge difference for me between TNOTB, POM, Powerslave and SSOASS. Ultimately it comes down to the weakest link on each album. Seventh Son doesn't have any, whereas TNOTB has Gangland and Invaders, POM has Quest for Fire and Sun and Steel, and Powerslave has Losfer Words.

Fun fact: This is the only matchup that was guaranteed in the entire game!

I will vote for the more well rounded Seventh Son.
