GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

I think the shit cover tricks people into thinking it's a weak album, like I said in my review, it's my favourite or thereabouts, but trying to think objectively I think I can't see any arguments for it being weaker than the first album or Vol. 4.
Did you know Ward went drunk (as always) to the photo session? He was wearing shorts and came by with his girlfriend. Did you know those red trousers are her's since there was nothing else to wear? :P But still on the ugly cover matter... if it was for that reason alone people would loathe Paranoid. :D
I think I can't see any arguments for it being weaker than the first album or Vol. 4.
When it come to the debut I agree but Vol 4 has truly amazing and diverse stuff: Supernaut, St. Vitus Dance, Snowblind, Under The Sun, Cornucopia. Now although I prefer Vol 4 to Sabotage I must admit it's really close since Sabotage is also filled with great tunes. Overall their first six records are all amazing.

Once again it's such a blatant evidence how influential these albums were I don't know what to say to people who state otherwise or in the case of many here say that either Sabotage or Sin After Sin are boring, filler stuff, mundane, or whatever.
Did anyone say they weren’t influential? That’s different from being interesting or enjoyable, and that’s going to vary based on personal taste.

If metal fans are required to think Sabotage isn’t boring, then are we supposed to think the same of all the music that influenced Black Sabbath too? What about the music that influenced the music that influenced Sabbath? Most people are going to start running into stuff that doesn’t work for them when they go backward far enough, because it’s less refined, or more poorly executed, or only contains a small subset of the elements that they enjoy about the music that came afterward.

Sorry, but to my taste Sabotage is mind-numbingly boring, regardless of how influential it may have been. Frankly, most rock albums before around 1975 wind up feeling flaccid and tired to me. You may disagree with that point of view, but that doesn’t mean that there’s anything wrong with it.

I mean, getting a top 100 album nomination by consensus in this isn't slander. But it is also true to say that of the first six Sabbath records, it is the lowest ranked using my methodology.
But still we see people saying it's boring, unimaginative, yadda yadda yadda. That was my point: one thing is saying "props to it for what it means to metal but I don't like it" and totally ok while saying stuff like that is a whole different story.

I mean I also think it’s boring (@Jer and I finally agreeing???) but that doesn’t take anything away from those who like it. I’ve already said that a lot of classic metal isn’t really my type anyway, lol.

I mean, I think there are some great songs on the album, absolutely - and you called 'em out. But I think that they were settling into a funk, too, creatively. Which is kinda expected at that point really. Still, it is a very good album.

The Metal God would like a word.

Mmmmmm disagree. To be fair the only two song I think are subpar regarding the overall quality of the album is Am I Going Insane. Only mentioned those because they're the most well known. Plus when it comes to novelty this album is still far from predictable: Supertzar and Am I Going Insane are something completely new for the band while Symptom is a mix of speed and heaviness like the band never delivered before. Now if you say they came to a funk AFTER Sabotage I must agree.
