GREATEST METAL ALBUM CUP - Winner: Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son!

Oh, the "split your lungs with blood and thunder" bit.

I suppose we can toss Ozzy off the "powerful singers" list and add this guy.
Oh he has immense power. I never knew which part he sang until I saw a live video, though, cause his delivery here is so different from his bluesier singing with Clutch.

I think Carcass is an alright band that never managed to make the album. Heartwork is good. A few months ago I was really, really into this album, but its worn on me a bit. Moving Pictures is just a phenomenal album that definitely deserves to beat Heartwork.
Obviously, my exposure to Carcass is limited to the GMAC, but in both cases I've liked the sample song enough to delve deeper, and then realized that they have very good tracks and lots of...meh to bad. The vocals remain a barrier for me, but I can tackle that if the rest of the package is quite good. So a few good songs, I can see how they delivered influence to today, but I fully intend to vote for Rush.

I don’t really like to listen to full Carcass albums but rather pick and choose songs. Like I’ve said before Jeff Walker is probably my favorite harsh vocalist. The way his rasp weaves through the music with surgical precision is awesome. Moving Pictures is a great album too though.

every time.

Classic stuff :D ... But in all honesty that bridge is powerful as hell.

Holy hell, what is with the guitar sound in that Darkthrone song? It's absolutely awful.

It's the tr00 say-tan! Don't you know? *clenches fist and grits teeth*

Actully, it's just that the black metalers haven't realized the subtle difference between "bad" and "evil" :innocent:

(just kidding, I almost somewhat like vintage Darkthrone, but I admit the sound in general (and especially the guitars) can be really silly, if you look at it in a wrong way)

I love Mastodon, but I don't get all the praise Leviathan usually gets. I understand it raised some feathers when it came out, but retrospectively looking I just don't understand why people rank it as their best. I've listened it again yesterday and OK, it has some good parts, but everything I'v heard on that album seems like a prototype of what they've been doing after that. IMO, there isn't a single thing on that album that hasn't been done much better on the later albums. On the other hand, Rammstein's Mutter not only cemented Rammstein as one of the main acts at that time, but stood the test of time. Those first 5 songs are still regularly played live and are still considered one of their best. While on this topic - Rammstein videos. I remember seeing Sonne for the first time on MTV and all that depressing aura it had around it. AFAIK, to this day, Rammstein are the last metal band that still gives a damn about their music videos and that's a thumb up from me. The rest of singles/videos on Mutter were also great: Ich Will, Links and Feuer Frei which made me at one point I even considered watching Vin Diesel's "xXx" (SPOILER: I didn't watch xXx,. Instead, I watched a lot of XXX at the time.) WINNER: Mutter

Here and there I used to stumble on some Gojira's song a gave it a listen. Not a single time, or a moment within single song made me want to listen something theirs. And it was the same this time when I pressed play which made me conclude to avoid 'em from now on. Truth be told, I only know like 3-4 songs from this album but still WINNER: Superunkown

Black metal definitely isn't my type, although there are some good moments. Also, Tool. Not my favorite album of theirs but definitely WINNER: Fear Inoculum. And same goes for the next pair. WINNER: Moving Pictures.
Gojira blew Opeth off the stage when I saw them together.
That's OK, I guess. It would be way worse if Gojira blew Opeth on the stage.

Mastodon edges out Rammstein to eliminate the Germans. Next up: Iced Earth.
Gojira is slain by Soundgarden. With the monster gone, Soundgarden's next challenger is Motörhead.
Tool overwhelms Darkthrone, who have another album this League in the Match 10 stream.
Rush makes quick work of Carcass, who are done. It'll be Savatage as their next opponent.

I actually scrolled down fast after voting, because I don't want to see how Walls of Jericho, one of the best metal albums of all time is going to get eliminated here by fucking Sabaton of all things.

I doubt it. Sabaton hasn’t done too well here. And if it does lose, it’ll join Symbol of Salvation down near the pile of albums that some people don’t care about.
