First hand accounts or stories about 2008's Heaven Can Wait crowd participation contest(?).

Unless this is an example of a mandela effect, I'm curious to know if anyone here can share a first hand account or some stories about when Iron Maiden performed Heaven Can Wait in 2008, how did the process happened of joining them on stage for the ''oh-oh'' chants part of Heaven Can Wait? Were you supposed to be fan club member and enter to participate via a contest or invitation from their management? Were there any other benefits like a meet and greet or a tour of the stage? How could you get in?

I know in some big radio markets like Eddie Trunk Rocks on Q104.3 ran a contest to call-in to win.

As far as I remember, and I maybe wrong as I never entered it, it was run the same way as "first to the barrier" is now, i.e. fan club members could apply and a set amount were lucky enough to be picked.

EDIT: but like you said, it may not only have been people from the Fan Club lottery on stage at any given show.

It was a combination of Fan Club members winning a lottery draw, people invited by radio stations, and those who knew somebody in the music business and, therefore, found themselves on stage with the band.

I went to 4 shows on the Somewhere Back in Time tour in 2008 (Mérida, Trondheim, Oslo, and Gothenburg) and won the Fan Club competition for the Oslo one. However, I did not end up going on stage because the process that one had to follow meant missing a number of songs; if I remember correctly, we were supposed to head backstage during Rime of the Ancient Mariner to get ready, missing that song and Powerslave just to be on stage for a few seconds.

I can't speak on 2008, but I would have been going onstage for Heaven Can Wait after winning a record store display contest through a local chain in 1998. I mentioned this recently elsewhere, but the show where that would have happened ended up cancelled due to Blaze's dust allergy/infection/whatever it was. I would have also gotten backstage, some Maiden swag, etc.

In the end, the manager of the store I won it at ended up pestering CMC--who put on the contest--so the winner got something. Months later, I ended up getting a signed band pic, probably the same one FC members got, as well as one of WASP for some reason.
