A 10, a very interesting song musically and some great vocals

  2. 9. Awesome song. This is one of the few songs that is better live than the studio version.

  3. Revelations85

    Revelations85 Trooper

10/10. A classic. The lead guitar on the intro is awesome.

OH WHOA OH OH OH OH OH OH

    10.

  5. Painkiller

    Painkiller Prowler

The only good song off that album...

As much as I hate how hyped it is, I had to give it a full rating.

I gave it a 6...actually my least favorite song on the album. Think Im in the minority on this board but I think FOTD is a good (not great) Maiden album.

    RTC Libera et impera!

I actually agree with that sentiment. Looking past the abysmal Apparition and Weekend Warrior, you have an album that isn't bad at all.

  8. MrKnickerbocker

I agree that the album is actually pretty decent, but the title song eclipses everything else.

  9. RTC

    RTC Libera et impera!

That's true, but Wasting Love, Be Quick Or Be Dead and Afraid To Shoot Strangers hold up as solid songs.

Mosh The years just pass like trains Staff Member

The only song that holds up to anything else in the Maiden catalog for me is Afraid To Shoot Strangers. I could live without hearing anything else from that album again.

Same here Mosh, but The Fugitive though... it's so complex. IMO it's easily more complex than any DT song.

  12. Infinite17

    Infinite17 Invader

Like all those tunes, as well as Judas My Guide, Childhood's End, Fugitive, Chains of Misery...

  13. RTC

    RTC Libera et impera!

Those are all (save for Chains, which is 5/10) in the 6/10 range for me.

  15. Saapanael

Saapanael "My hair sets the trend of tmrw by doing it today"

    10, best on the album.

  16. Brave New Bat

    Brave New Bat Prowler

When I listen to this song, I get a little bummed only because it's the last track on the last album produced with Martin Birch...which is probably why I like the studio version, it gives me that last bit of production to hold onto...as I understand it, a live version was the one released as a single...and I wonder about that, because the other singles from that album were studio versions...I would only guess that it fits the "live" feeling Steve Harris seems to prefer for albums...when I think of the band producing hit singles, I think of quality studio tracks like NOTB or 2 Minutes To Midnight, because Martin seemed to put the pieces together like a master chef

  17. Gk1

    Gk1 Ancient Mariner

The last song of the last classic Maiden album.

Iconic Maiden song, and it is great still, even if it is overplayed.
Great arrangement! Great vocals! Many great melodies in this one, and I'm especially in love with the middle section.
And this is even better live of course, with my favorite being Rock In Rio.

    9/10

When I think of this song I think of 2 distinct ratings - 9 for studio, 10 for live. Going to go with the live as I am very biased towards this song, it being the one that got me into the band.

This was one of the earliest Maiden songs I heard, and has remained one of my favourites. An absolute beast of a track both in the studio and live.
