One big complaint I have with Fear of the Dark is that Steve’s bass is often lost in the mix. I’m not sure if it’s a production fault or a result of Steve simplifying his approach, but it is noticeable. Despite containing some of the absolute worst songs Maiden would ever write (and one terrible bridge), Fear of the Dark has a few classics and a huge selection of underrated gems. That it remains a far more progressive album than its predecessor is due to Steve’s growing admiration for complex song structures and Janick’s influence of pure unpredictability. He may play some sloppy notes here and there, but his songwriting and wild style are responsible for a lot of Maiden’s successful post-1980s experimentation. There are signs of improvement and signs of decline all over Fear of the Dark. Bruce must have felt it, as well, because he left the band soon after to pursue his solo career and Maiden entered into an even darker period. - FULL REVIEW HERE: https://www.facebook.com/TheDuellists/posts/1638913499681326

Yes! The Fugitive with top marks! That song rocks. Too bad it's in most people's basement list...

Swear to god, I love The Apparition more and more each time I listen to it. It'll probably end up a 10 one of these days. Still can't see how it's Maidens worst song.
