Russian ambassador to Turkey has been assassinated. The video of the assassination is available online, the attacker is dressed like a bodyguard and stands right behind the ambassador. Shoots the ambassador multiple times from the back, then shouts Islamic nonsense, and then shouts "Don't forget Aleppo! Don't forget Syria! As long as they're not safe, you won't have safety either".

Happened only about 30 minutes ago.

He was actually a police officer. Given the tensions between Turkey and Russia are already fuming, I could REALLY see this escalating into something terrible.

Or, it could have the exact opposite effect. Turkish leadership was due to hold a meeting with Russian and Iranian leadership tomorrow, if Russia interprets this as an attack on Turkish-Russian relations, it could have the opposite effect. If they interpret it governmental negligence, allowing an Islamic terrorist in the police forces, it could turn bad.

I'd speculate that the police officer is an al-Nusra symphatizer. They're dime a dozen in Turkish police forces.

I kind of get where you're coming from, but the fact that he was spec-ops, and not a random anarchist nutjob really makes me think Russia will take it the latter way or even intentional. Either way, Russia are going to be furious.

First Russian reactions have been pretty calm. They declared that the Turkish-Russian-Iranian meeting will still take place tomorrow, called it a terrorist attack and that Turkish-Russian relations wouldn't be affected. You never know though.

This once again shows all sides who the real enemy is, though. Islamic terrorism.

While I certainly hope these types of atrocities don't happen, -and I realize it's painful to say-, I realize why they can happen. The Russians bombed numerous of civilian targets in Aleppo, e.g. hospitals and killed many civilians. Not just a bit. Structurally. Non-stop. This ambassador had nothing to with it, but the anger for everything that reeks Russian has risen to a boiling point. The Russian role in the evens have created extremism.

Truck has ploughed through a crowd in Berlin, ala (no pun intended) Nice. Gunshots also heard in Zurich in an Islamic centre.

Jesus fucking christ, what is this coming to?

I suggest you listen to testimony given by a Canadian journalist in front of some UN panel. She was granted access to Syria numerous times. Google those keywords, I can't remember the name of the video.

Contrary to first speculations, there is no indication whatsoever whether this was an accident or an attack.

They're not saying anything currently and it's impossible to say anything for sure yet.
