European Politics

In the media I read that a neigbour of the man thinks he was not a radical muslim. "He had nothing with religion. He didn't pray and didn't do Ramadan. He was a depressive man in the middle of a divorce. He lived alone and had financial problems."

A military coup has just been launched against Erdogan's government in Turkey.

Wishing for safety and security for The Flash and any other Maidenfans members who live in the region.

I don't think there's anything to apologise for, it probably should have been discussed here in the first place, but since it's such a clusterfuck and more people visit that thread...

I can only hope Flash is going to be okay. Nobody even knows what's going on at the moment. Allegedly, "army has taken control".

I'm reporting on the 100k posts thread guys. It's awful. It's fucking awful. I'm trying to keep it together to be able to string coherent sentences. But it's bad.

Having spent so much time stationed at Incirlik air base, I can tell you these fuckers are not our friends. We plussed up a ton of their shitty airfields prior to the Iraq war and just a couple of weeks before the agreed upon invasion they decided that the political will was no longer there and restricted use from crossing their border into Iraq. (your tax dollars at work for them) They also put Turkish liaison officers on EVERY plane that could hold passenger to ensure we didn't didn't do anything like drop food to the Kurds, but never mind that was the whole point of Operation Provide Comfort. They had a shit fit over that even though they thoroughly enjoyed "chumming for Kurds" and would go in and attack them (with the aircraft we sold them) right after we dropped food. The people of Turkey were wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed touring their beautiful and history rich country. Their government though... They can eat a bag of dicks.

Very nice indeed.

Not going into war in Iraq was one of the best decisions in Turkish history. Erdoğan adamantly campaigned for participation in the invasion. It remains the biggest, in fact only, upset vote in the AKP era. The proposal came up short by only 3 votes. Most people in AKP who voted against the bill are no longer affiliated with the party, the most adamant campaigners remain in strong positions within the party to this day.

What happened after the bill was overturned remains a disgrace for Turkey.

Huge worries now over Turkish academical personal who are forbidden to work outside Turkey. Also students who are now in a foreign country are called to come back. E.g. hundreds from the Netherlands got a letter to return to Turkey.

This is an attack on free science.

An enourmous cleansing has started in Turkey. 21.000 teachers have been put on non active.
1600 deans were fired.

No it isn't, Foro. Strongly suggest you read this post. It is concerning, but only if you don't have context.

-And by this point you probably know how big of an Erdoğan opposer I am, so I hope you take notice of my point of view here-

Attacking science is not the intention there. There's context to it, it's not like these emergencies and bans happened out of the blue.

I don't wish to continue discussing politics, 3 month state of emergency has been declared here. I prefer to stay silent on issues for a while and just watch what happens.

Five years after the 22. July massacre, there's someone shooting people in a mall in München.

Fuck this shit.
Also reportedly a second shooting in Munich on a public place / market

Nothing clear, but i guess it's kind of clear where this is coming from

Dude just came around or out of Mc Donalds pulled a gun and started shooting people at point blank range
