Dream Theater

I like it! Very proggy, feels like something different for them. Really curious how this will work in context of the album.

Ending sounds tacked on, I bet on the album instead of that final chord it'll just go straight into the next song.

There's something about it that I like I'm actually not sure what it is, something in the melody perhaps - it's just a shame that the song is wrapped up in that unmistakably too-sweet balladry DT sound they've had for a few albums now.... ;) It never really breaks loose and rocks...It's just very pretty to listen too.

That has indeed been a slight problem for me too, Sixes. I actually think they nailed the sound on Black Clouds. The production there really brings out their heavy side alongside their melodic style.

I confess that's not an album I've heard all that much. But it's definitely a part of why I prefer the older DT stuff - like you say, it was Dream Theater but without compromising with their metal side.

Black Clouds is my #2 ranking DT album after Scenes. I won't promise you'll love it since you prefer their earlier material but you should give it a go. Tons of great lead work and heavy riffs on there in terms of guitar.

Yeah, I hate the crystal clear sound they've had for a while now. I&W, Awake, Scenes, Six Degrees all have sounds with character.

I'm not totally against their sound, I think it can still compliment many of their songs but they do tend to overproduce nowadays.

I quite enjoy the new song! And it sounds like the concept of the album might be someone on a quest to get people to appreciate the gift of music. Hard to say with just one song though.
