David Bowie

David Bowie is #1 in the US for the first time ever. So don't feel bad, Maiden, you're not the only ones having trouble on the continent.

I will definitely miss him. We have grown apart as the years passed, but there was a time Ziggy, Aladdin, Low and Hunky Dory didn't leave my CD player for weeks.

Also, for his reputation as an alien and the Thin White Duke, he actually gave a very decent and down-to-earth (albeit very short) performance as Pontius Pilate in Scorsese's The Last Temptation of Christ

Tony Visconti on the the number one 1 album, with a lesson to so called pop stars of today:

I am so proud of my dear friend's accomplishment. One is just a number, but in this case he made an example of how true artistry and real quality can reach number one in the album charts. I'm reaching out to the top artists of today. Don't pander to the illusion of commercialism -- even the biggest hits of today's sales pale by comparison of the sales of past decades. Do what you f**king want to do, not what you think you have to do

EDIT:
This cool: David Bowie's 25 favourite albums!

Confessions of a Vinyl Junkie by David Bowie (Vanity Fair, November 2013)

From his collection of 2,500 vinyl LPs, the rock star has selected his greatest discoveries, and some record-buying memories as well. One way or another, he writes, he has had to get these on CD.

In a away, even an inspiration for Iron Maiden: (poster)
And another connection:
The title track from the soundtrack belonging to When the Wind Blows, the 1986 British animated disaster film that inspired 'Arry to write WTWWB.

He also did a good job as a brief cameo playing Nikola Tesla in the film The Prestige

Love how Bowie greets the people on the other side of the wall, and the reaction(!) when performing in front of the Reichstag, back in 1987 @Perun

Part 8 of the open air "Concert for Berlin" in front of the Reichstag in Berlin, Germany.
David Bowie introduces the band and sends best wishes to the listeners in east-Berlin.
The audio is the on-air-mix for live radio broadcast.

And here a several TV clips on Bowie in Berlin:
1 (Dutch) riot!
2 (German)
3 (German)
Young people from East Berlin wanted to see a rock concert in West Berlin, shouting "tear down the wall". DDR-police beat em up, West Berlin television was present and members of the TV crew were injured.
