There is an additional cost (and profit) if there are 50 versus 10 in a theater. Assuming like most theaters, it is a 10-plex. You have 500 people through the front door versus 500. Which means extra ticket takers, concession stand employees, etc working.
Music stores were certianly going to take a hit with digital music (even if 100% legal downloads), but the hit has been much worse due to illegal downloading. I cannot imagine how many people are out of work now from store employees, to the distribution chain, the actual manufacturers, their supply chains, etc.
