THE CHEMICAL WEDDING:

This album will probably need to grow on me a little before I truly appreciate it. I like it, but it's not the masterpiece I've heard it called. The title track and Jerusalem are good songs, and Trumpets of Jericho is probably my favorite of his solo career thus far. Otherwise I'm kinda iffy with how much I actually like it. Thus I won't rate this till I've heard it again.

I do like the ending of The Alchemist, where he returns to the title track though.

Listen to the "Book of Thel" live, I think it is the best thing from his whole solo career:

TYRANNY OF SOULS:

Possibly my favorite of his albums. Not a bad song on here, though Devil on a Hog's Sabbath-y riff doesn't really gel with me. Other than that, I like this one. Will return again. 9/10

Overall, I do like Bruce's discography. Not as good as Maiden, of course, but I like the way he crafted out his own path.

Tattooed Millionaire
Born in '58
Tears of the Dragon
Back From The Edge
Man of Sorrows
Accident of Birth
Chemical Wedding
Jerusalem
Trumpets of Jericho
Power of the Sun
Wicker Man

I shall check this out.

Chemical Wedding is easily the best Bruce album for me and the best any Maiden member has made outside the band.
Well, it's not like it's much of a competition. I do agree though. TCW is fucking fantastic. AOB is pretty damn good too, and I've lately gotten more and more attached to Tyranny of Souls as well. It's different, but it's not bad, really.

I found the Chemical Wedding to be a bit of a disappointment after Accident of Birth, which I much prefer. I loved the idea of the album, the concept and reading through the lyrics and looking at the artwork in the booklet, something that was lost in the remaster. But the music is just a bit heavy for my tastes. Book of Thel & Jerusalem are the only two tracks I generally listen to these days, though I also love the twin guitar playout on the Tower, wish that had been extended.

Of albums made by Maiden members outside the band, Welcome to the World by Psycho Motel is my favourite.

I'm rather new to Dickinson's solo career: I did not bother to listen to his stuff when he was out of Maiden, and I've bought it recently, thanks to Cried and Forostar. Chemical Wedding is a very good album, and I actually find it more consistent than Accident of Birth, which I like a lot but has a few weaker songs (Man of Sorrows and the title track). Both records are far superior to Tyranny of Souls, which has too many generic riffs and sounds a bit rushed. None of these is my favorite solo album by a Maiden member though.

The Chemical Wedding is the album I've kept coming back to from Bruce's discography. It's got absolute gems alongside a trio of clunkers - overall a good album though.

King In Crimson - 9/10
Chemical Wedding - 10/10
The Tower - 9/10
Killing Floor - 8/10
Book of Thel - 10/10
Gates of Urizen - 8/10
Jerusalem - 10/10
Trumpets of Jericho - 10/10
Machine Men - 8/10
The Alchemist - 10/10

Total: 9.2/10

Yes, Tyranny of Souls is patchy - I'd say you can tell it was basically a spare time activity for him at that point. The best stuff on it is still very good, but the gap between that and the weaker songs is wider than on any of his other solo stuff.

So which is your favourite solo album by a Maiden member? Do tell!
