Bruce Dickinson

The second guitarist would have blown the budget. Well, let's see how that works out...

I would also be curious if there was a deal with Veruga GmbH for the Rockharz Festival in the sense that he'll make this the only festival show in Germany and in return we show you as co-headliner with Judas Priest...
I'm just glad that he does a club tour on his own and I got my Hamburg ticket safe. First I thought Rockharz would be his only show in Germany. I hate festivals, really. And I always think Maiden do not deserve those festival audiences. And the real Maiden fans also do not. Wacken e.g., people go there anyway and don't care much about the bands. Just celebrating themselves.
So I think it'd be a wonderful idea if Bruce did his two hour lecture and spoken word thing on such a festival. :D
Maybe even as a headliner. :D
Any musical appearance in clubs only. :D

I listened to the full Bandit rock interview but I can't remember that he said anything about The Alchemist. I would have reacted since its my favorite song by Bruce.

Zapped through it again now and I can't find the part where he supposedly mentions it.
At 43:40 they begin talking setlist

If someone can find it that would be great

Imo the new album cover is a continuation of what I believe to be a conscious marketing strategy from the Maiden camp. 99.9% of people who listen to the new albums do so on a their phone through a streaming service, so make the album cover as simple and uncluttered as possible so that it looks good on a phone screen. For the .1% of fans who care about things like album artwork enough to post about it on the internet, they’re going to buy a physical copy (often vinyl) so the “real” cover can go in the booklet or gatefold as a treat to the hardcore fans and a way to entice people to buy a physical copy. I assume Mandrake will have some sort of gatefold art just like the last couple Maiden albums and live albums have had

Check out this one shortly after 17:20 where Bruce tells the good-old story about writing his autobiography on paper and that shocking his publisher etc. the interview cuts into a tour/setlist talk and mention of "playing The Chemical Wedding for sure -- And we'll do The Alchemist as well, they kinda bookend each other"

You going to make a setlist contest for Bruce? :D

I think he has to. Unlike Maiden this tour won’t sell itself.

Fair point!

Overall, given that it's his first solo tour after a long while, this "greatest hits/catalogue-spanning" setlist approach he has hinted towards to seems like a good plan to start again with. And frankly, while I (assuming that I'll like the album, heh) wouldn't mind heavy focus on new material either, I'm quite excited for it, as I've never had a chance to see Bruce doing his solo stuff live before.

And then there are those who listen on streaming services and buy the CDs. But honestly, even if you’re gonna listen to it on your phone you wanna stare at something more wild or rather conceptual rather than a black background. A nice album art can catch the eye of a random person too and may just come and initiate a convo with you. That’s marketing too in a way.

Also beginning to think Sonata will be an acoustic ballad. Maybe a longer version of Seas of the Sun. So the album may have a Dance of Death like ending if it’s this way. A heavy riff would totally not go with the title.

The Alchemist is brilliant. The reprise at the end makes me want to listen to the whole album again.

It's funny with song titles being the same between Maiden and solo projects, to the point I hear one song and wonder which I prefer, like:

The Alchemist (Dickinson) vs. The Alchemist (Maiden)
Bring Your Daughter...to the Slaughter (Dickinson) vs. Bring Your Daughter...to the Slaughter (Maiden)
Wicker Man (Dickinson) vs. Wicker Man (Maiden)
Man of Sorrows (Dickinson) vs. Man of Sorrows (Maiden)
Speed of Light (Blaze Bayley) vs. Speed of Light (Maiden)

or bend it a little more...

No Lies (Dickinson) vs. No More Lies (Maiden)

Am I missing any?

The Alchemist end is just apt for any fantasy/dark fantasy novel. I end up rewinding to that part 4-5 times every time I listen to the song.

That would be a surprise, but I hope you're right. Something more colorful. And it's not that impossible since Bruce is really into this project with the comic and everything. I'm happy about that.

I agree.

This is also true.

Bruce hinted that it will be a calm piece (probably with not heavy parts since it is described as a bit different) with a high chorus (I guess).
Ballad-y/slow song yes, but I doubt it will be full-on acoustic. Acoustic parts for sure, but if Roy wants to do some classical melodies and emotions, he won't be able to do that properly with the acoustic. I kind of doubt that the album will have a ballad. Idk. I also can't imagine the song being calm and slow for 10 minutes. There should be more interesting parts. Well, I hope so.

He mentioned about the song - the verses are set in a dark forest, ''Love will tear us apart'' lines after the chorus/or that's the chorus (a Hell On Earth 2nd chorus similar line? Bring it on!)...so there should be more ''darker'' vibe.

That’s interesting. Well there are a lot of possibilities for this track. Can be a tribute, love song to a lovers death (immortal beloved). Let’s see what it’s like.

So a heady combination of Beethoven and Joy Division then? I'm genuinely curious to hear this ...

I've just had a look at Wizard Promotion's résumé for 2023 (the event management company that also organizes Bruce and Iron Maiden events). They're planning "activities around Bruce Dickinson"? So more than just the concerts? But it's more likely that I'm just reading something into their wording.

My translation:
"Next year, Wizard Promotion's 20th anniversary year, the Frankfurt-based company is planning gigs for Toto at seven German open airs and activities centered around musicians like Bruce Dickinson, the Scorpions, Zucchero or Nena, who wants to play more than 30 shows in Europe."
