Bruce Dickinson

Speaking of special editions, I remember being incredibly pissed when the same week, or at least month, that I completed my Dickinson collection, they announced bloody special editions of the albums. The bastards were bleeding my 14-year-old self dry.

Ok, so I actually read The Book of Thel. Can someone tell me how it and the song are connected?
Except for the word "virgin", I couldn't make any connection.

What is everyone's favorite Tyranny of Souls song? Mine is Devil On a Hog.
The title track is remarkably epic. Man, that song has some beastly riffs. And what a chorus! Every time preceded by that cool echo of that single guitar chord. Later, the mid part gets very interesting with this complex rhythm, the hacking riffs and intriguing vocal harmonies.

Should be mentioned in my favourite Bruce vocal performances.

Other favourites:
Abduction, Soul Intruders, Kill Devil Hill.

Kill Devil Hill for sure. I love that driving rhythm and the chorus is so triumphant. I really like the way it's structured too, the way it builds up and comes back down. It's such a dynamic song despite not being very long. And that last minute or so is musical bliss. Best moment on the album.

I agree Kill Devil Hill is brilliant track. This sure is a great album, even if its not as good as those two that came before it.
I cant believe 10 years has gone by that fast. Hopefully he will release another solo album before he retires.

The entire middle of the record with "Kill Devil Hill", "Navigate the Seas of the Sun" and "River of No Return" is very strong, those are the songs that stand out in my memory.

I agree about the title track. Incredible song!

Anyway, I'm relistening to some of that Balls to Picasso outtake stuff I talked about earlier. "Fire Child" stands out this time around - great melody and arrangement, and the way it alternates heavy and quiet parts is rather unusual. I don't think I've ever seen it talked about anywhere, so what are your thoughts?

It sounds too American to me but still a damn good song. Dude I am sick with anything Bruce solo. I would be more than happy to see almost any of his songs to a Maiden album(Ok, maybe not his first album....which BTW has some good songs).

Anyone heard this one before??

Now that it is officially August 7th here in Minnesota:

Been listening in the car this week to the Balls to Picasso 2 CD and Accident of Birth 2 CD. There's a few interesting ideas on the BtP bonus CD, and it's a hell of a difference between the AoB demos and the final songs... For example, the "gotta move" screams in Darkside of Aquarius really work better as he sung it in the album.

Also, talking about Tyranny of Souls, did anyone notice (or NOT notice) the guitar mistake during the fade-out to Navigate the Seas of the Sun? It's been bothering me since I've first heard the album all those years ago... Why did they leave it on like that?

I think the mistake is at 5'23/5'24 (the layers of guitars are unfortunate at this moment, it sounds like the two different tones don't mesh... either that or one of the guitars is out of tune, but this can't happen on a professional release, can it? ;) )
